How to allow Playlist creation on API/MCP?

I'm using the sample MCP to try to let Jan create a playlist for me, but unfortunately it always get 403 ACCESS_DENIED — PlaylistCreate modifications are disabled no matter what.

Already configured my access on musicbee to be like this:

But it doesnt work.

What i'm doing wrong?

Hi — thanks for the report.

Try unchecking Create.

The API Access Control checkboxes are disable switches: you check a box to turn that operation off. So checking "Create" blocks playlist creation - which is exactly the 403 you're getting. Uncheck it (and "Modify" as well, if you want the MCP to add tracks to existing playlists) and press OK. From your screenshot: you've blocked Tag edits but left File deletion allowed. Probably the opposite of what you meant perhaps? The whole Queue row is ticked too, so the MCP can't queue anything either - assuming you want it to write to your queue to change it.

The dialog has been fixed to make it clearer that these controls disable when checked.

In future builds it will read as:

☐ Read-Only Mode (blocks all write operations)
Check a box to block that operation:
☐ Library ☑ Tag edits ☐ File deletion

Also: rather than just getting a 403 will see:
403 ACCESS_DENIED
Creating playlists is disabled. Uncheck 'Create' in MusicBee > MBXHub settings > API Access.
