Port screen.scrollUntilVisible and locator.scrollUntilVisible - #664
Ports upstream tester-army/e2e screen.scrollUntilVisible and locator.scrollUntilVisible (packages/e2e/src/locator/screen.ts) with its tests (packages/e2e/tests/unit/scroll-until-visible.test.ts). Screen.ScrollUntilVisibleAsync(target, options) polls the target and swipes the viewport between polls (down, slow, 30 s by default) until the target reads visible, else LOCATOR_NOT_FOUND with the locator details. On a locator the node itself swipes, so a scroll container pages. Every swipe is bounded by the scroll's own deadline. Momentum is now a core type, since the swipe carries it. COMPATIBILITY.md lines for screen.scrollUntilVisible and the scroll-until-visible tests are removed or reworded; skills/e2e-dotnet/references/writing-tests.md documents the method.
Momentum moved from E2E.Mobile to E2E.Engine (upstream's Momentum is a core contract type) and gained None; this is a namespace/assembly move of a public type. LocatorAction.Swipe gained Momentum.
Test helpers ScrollScreen, ScrollScript, Swipe (upstream's scrollScreen).
Tests (tests/E2E.Tests/ScrollUntilVisible/)
Ported as written: on a locator swipes that node; returns at once when visible; keeps scrolling past a hidden target; fails as LOCATOR_NOT_FOUND and records the failed step; bounds a viewport swipe by its own deadline; owns the outcome whichever timer fires first; labels the step on a locator (the port writes the scope as parent.child, not parent >> child); needs the swipe action only once it has to scroll; refused by scrollUntilVisible and by filter({ has }).
Partial (Partial_ prefix): takes a direction and momentum, swipes down slowly, still swipes with less than a poll interval left (the port has no observation-root node, so the viewport swipe is addressed to the engine's SwipeAsync); bounds a locator swipe by the same deadline and keeps an engine timeout far from the deadline (the port has no translateLocatorError, so there is no ACTION_FAILED wrapper and the cause is the engine's OPERATION_TIMEOUT); rejects a target that is not an e2e locator (typed parameter, checks null).
Skipped: refuses an option it does not take before any swipe (typed options class); is refused by dragTo (the port has no dragTo).
No .NET-only tests.
Minor decisions
No operation context in the port: a swipe's deadline is the cancellation of the token it runs under, and a deadline-ended swipe fails with an OPERATION_TIMEOUT cause.
Web strides follow upstream's swipeDistance (none 0.5, slow 0.75, fast 1.5); a swipe with no momentum keeps the port's 0.75. Mobile node swipes use the momentum; the whole-screen swipe keeps the device client's default. DocumentEngine and WinAppEngine have one stride.
Filter(has) now checks the locator's screen (upstream ownLocator), needed by the ported is refused by filter({ has }).
Upstream observations (not fixed, per parity)
screen.tsscrollUntilVisible loops with no pause or no-progress exit between swipes; the 30 s timeout is the only stop.
tryRead is strict: a target matching several nodes fails the scroll with the strict-mode error.
Tests run
E2E.Tests (non-RealModel): 2167 pass, 1 timing failure (HungPage tap) that passes on rerun. E2E.Mobile.Tests: CapturedSnapshots (CRLF) and 4 install-path tests fail on this Windows host. RealModel: E2E.NUnit.Tests and XUnit sample pass; E2E.Agent.Tests 16/17, Act_signs_in_with_a_secret_credential fails twice (model returned an empty verdict summary; not in the scroll path); WinAppBenchmark and MobileApp need a desktop/device. The dotnet-claude-kit:code-review skill is not installed here; /code-review was run.

Walkthrough
The pull request adds screen-level and locator-scoped ScrollUntilVisibleAsync APIs. It adds momentum-aware swipe support, locator ownership validation, deadline handling, tests, and documentation.
Changes: Scroll until visible

Summary
Momentum-aware swipe support src/E2E/Engine/IEngine.cs, src/E2E/Engine/LocatorAction.cs, src/E2E/Engine/PageScript.cs, src/E2E/Engine/WebEngine.cs, src/E2E.Mobile/DeviceActions.cs, src/E2E.Mobile/DeviceSupport.cs
The swipe contract accepts optional momentum. The web engine maps momentum to scroll strides for viewport and element swipes. The mobile node swipe passes the requested momentum, and the Momentum declaration in DeviceSupport.cs is removed.
Scroll API and execution src/E2E/Locator/Screen.cs, src/E2E/Run/E2ESession.cs, COMPATIBILITY.md, docs/index.md, skills/e2e-dotnet/*
Screen and locator APIs scroll until the target is visible or the deadline passes. The implementation validates locator ownership, bounds swipes by the deadline, and reports the documented errors. The session passes the engine swipe callback to Screen; documentation describes the APIs and their compatibility status.
Scrolling tests and fixtures tests/E2E.Tests/ScrollUntilVisible/*
New fixtures and tests cover scrolling behavior, momentum and direction, ownership checks, timeout handling, swipe capability, and recorded steps.
hardkoded/e2e-dotnet#600 — Both changes add same-screen validation for locators and use INVALID_LOCATOR for cross-screen use.
hardkoded/e2e-dotnet#621 — This change passes IEngineSession.SwipeAsync into Screen and adds optional momentum to the swipe contract.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to f07a2
The identified test-naming issue is fixed, and no actionable issue remains from this review. The change is ready for normal merge checks.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to f07a2
The scrolling API stays within the existing browser or device session and rejects locators from another screen. The main residual risk is that timing out stops waiting without guaranteeing that an already-issued gesture has stopped.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The inspected change affects scrolling in the already-controlled browser page, resolved element, or selected mobile device. The added parameters change gesture distance, not browser, origin, device selection, or credentials. No cross-tenant or infrastructure authority expansion was demonstrated.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Browser actions retain observation and element-resolution controls. Scrolling evaluates static scripts with serialized direction and numeric stride arguments, rather than constructing executable source from locator or momentum input. Mobile node swipes retain node resolution and require node bounds before dispatching structured coordinates.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — The scroll deadline bounds waiting through linked cancellation, but does not establish remote-command quiescence. Existing browser and mobile budgets can abandon pending work, so an issued swipe may still affect subsequent actions in the same session. This underlying limitation predates the PR; the new API inherits it rather than proving gestures have stopped when LOCATOR_NOT_FOUND is returned.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Consider defining a session-reuse policy after indeterminate input: retain the possibly-committed distinction and either establish command quiescence or discard the affected session before further input. This would strengthen failure containment beyond the inherited bounded-wait behavior.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#641] Requires a port of upstream screen.scrollUntilVisible and locator.scrollUntilVisible, its ported tests, and removal of the matching COMPATIBILITY.md lines.
Implementation at reviewed head (src/E2E/Locator/Screen.cs, verified by focused diff and file read):
Screen.ScrollUntilVisibleAsync(target, options, ct) polls the target through ResolveSingleAsync. It returns when the node is not hidden. At the deadline it throws LOCATOR_NOT_FOUND with LocatorDetails.
Locator.ScrollUntilVisibleAsync(target, options, ct) passes the scope locator. SwipeStepAsync then calls scope.PerformUntilAsync, so the node itself swipes.
Each swipe runs under a linked token whose CancelAfter equals the remaining scroll deadline.
Defaults are Down, Slow, and 30 s (ScrollUntilVisibleOptions.DefaultTimeout).
A deadline-ended swipe becomes LOCATOR_NOT_FOUND with an OPERATION_TIMEOUT cause.
Target from another screen is refused with INVALID_LOCATOR through OwnLocator.
Tests (tests/E2E.Tests/ScrollUntilVisible/ScreenScrollUntilVisibleTests.cs, verified at head): cover locator swipe, immediate return, hidden target, LOCATOR_NOT_FOUND with step record, viewport and locator deadline bounds, deadline ownership, step label, and missing swipe capability. The Partial_ tests state their divergence from upstream in XML comments. Cross-screen refusal is covered by ALocatorMadeByAnotherTargetsScreenTests (not read directly).
Skipped upstream cases: 'refuses an option it does not take' depends on untyped options, which C# compile-time typing replaces. 'is refused by dragTo' depends on dragTo, which the port does not have. Neither is a coding requirement the port can meet, so neither leaves #641 unmet.
COMPATIBILITY.md (verified by diff): the screen.scrollUntilVisible entry at the former line 127 is removed from the 'not ported' list, and the scroll-until-visible entry at the former line 158 is removed from the test list. A ported entry is added near line 38. The remaining error-details sentence is reworded to exclude the scroll case.
Limits: the incremental diff from d9adb69 was unavailable because changed blobs were missing. The commits since the previous review (stride documentation, Partial_ label marking, docs and skill updates) were checked through the whole-PR diffs of Screen.cs and COMPATIBILITY.md, the head test file, and the commit history. Test results reported in the PR were not re-run.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Each changed area traces to the #641 port or to its documentation:
Momentum moved from E2E.Mobile to E2E.Engine and gained None. LocatorAction.Swipe carries it. The swipe action needs this type. The namespace move is a public breaking change that the PR states.
IEngineSession.SwipeAsync(direction, momentum, ct) with a default that drops momentum. This passes momentum to the viewport swipe. Existing sessions keep compiling.
WebEngine and PageScript strides: ScrollViewport and ScrollElement take a stride. A swipe with no momentum keeps the former 0.75, so existing callers keep their behavior.
MobileEngine and DeviceActions: node swipes pass momentum. The whole-screen swipe keeps the device default.
Screen.cs: ScrollUntilVisibleAsync, OwnLocator, SwipeStepAsync, and ScrollUntilVisibleOptions implement the port. Locator.Filter(has) now calls OwnLocator. This changes an existing method, but only to refuse a cross-screen locator with INVALID_LOCATOR. The ported test 'refused by filter({ has })' requires it, and upstream ownLocator does the same. Locator.ResolveSingleAsync becomes internal, and PerformUntilAsync is added for the swipe step.
E2ESession.cs passes engine.SwipeAsync to the Screen constructor.
Tests and helpers (ScrollScreen, ScrollScript, Swipe) support the new tests.
COMPATIBILITY.md, docs/index.md, skills/e2e-dotnet/SKILL.md, and writing-tests.md document the ported API.
No unrelated change was found in the whole-PR file list or in the verified diffs. Changes to WebEngine, PageScript, DeviceActions, DeviceSupport, IEngine, and LocatorAction were taken from the AI-generated summary and were not each read. The Filter(has) behavior change for cross-screen locators is an existing-API change that the PR states.
Full details: Upstream Parity
Explanation
No explicit upstream-parity failure is shown. The PR names the upstream file and maps the new APIs, port-only C# symbols, and test helpers in its report. The added tests follow the upstream directory/class/method structure; partial cases use the Partial_ prefix, and the two skipped cases have stated reasons. The current diff documents ScrollUntilVisibleAsync, its options, defaults, scope, timeout, and errors in skills/e2e-dotnet/SKILL.md, docs/index.md, and COMPATIBILITY.md. Exact upstream source comparison was unavailable, so this assessment uses the PR report, compatibility text, and repository diff. Prior failure addressed: The current diff adds guidance to skills/e2e-dotnet/SKILL.md and docs/index.md for both APIs, options, defaults, scope, timeout, and errors, while retaining the COMPATIBILITY.md update.

Declare the non-upstream helpers as .NET-only.
Stride must not be renamed to SwipeDistance. It returns a ratio that the page scripts apply to an extent, while upstream swipeDistance takes the extent and returns the distance. Keep the current scripts and callers, and list Stride as a .NET-only implementation helper in the PR report.
Also list DefaultTimeout as .NET-only. SwipeStepAsync maps to upstream swipeStep with the permitted Async suffix and needs no exception.
