HILDA is distributed as a global NPM package. It is designed to be installed once and configured per project.
Before installing HILDA, ensure you have:
- Node.js (v18 or higher) installed
- A Supabase account (for database and realtime subscriptions)
- A GitHub Personal Access Token (Classic) with
reposcope - An API Key for your preferred AI provider (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic)
Open your terminal and install the agent globally:
npm install -g hilda-agentNavigate to the root directory of the project you wish to manage (or create a new folder for the dashboard) and run the setup wizard. This interactive tool will securely configure your environment variables and build the local dashboard.
hilda setupFollow the on-screen prompts to enter your API keys. HILDA will encrypt these locally in a .env file.
Once configured, start the dashboard:

GitHub Copilot is a Coding Assistant; it lives in your IDE and helps you write syntax and logic. HILDA is a Deployment Agent; it lives in your release pipeline. While Copilot helps you write the function, HILDA verifies that the function is safe to deploy, doesn't leak secrets, and adheres to project architectural standards.
HILDA maintains a persistent state of your deployments and PR history. Supabase provides the realtime infrastructure required to update the dashboard instantly when a GitHub webhook event occurs (e.g., a new commit or PR comment), eliminating the need for manual refreshing.
HILDA is a self-hosted tool. Your code resides on your machine and is only sent to the specific LLM provider you choose (e.g., Google or OpenAI) for analysis. It is not sent to any HILDA-specific cloud, ensuring data privacy and security.
HILDA is designed with a "Safety First" architecture. It can analyze code and recommend changes, but it cannot directly write to your repository without human authorization. The "Reject" and "Deploy" actions in the dashboard utilize your GitHub token to perform actions on your behalf, but only when you click the button.
HILDA uses Next.js, which compiles the application for optimal performance. The build process requires the environment variables (API keys) to be present to configure the API routes securely. The hilda setup command ensures these keys are in place before triggering the build, preventing compilation errors.
