Proposed Changes

(Describe the changes and rationale behind them)

Prepares this repository for the add-on to app rename landing in Home Assistant 2026.2, and brings it in line with the other apps in the organisation (app-grafana and app-emqx were used as the reference for the target state).

Rename

  • "Add-on"/"Add-ons" become "App"/"Apps" throughout the documentation, the readme template and the S6 script headers, keeping the existing capitalisation at every occurrence.
  • "Home Assistant Community Add-ons" becomes "Home Assistant Community Apps".
  • Repository links move from hassio-addons/addon-vscode to hassio-addons/app-vscode. The organisation is unchanged.
  • The org.opencontainers.image.url label moves from https://addons.community to https://frenck.dev/home-assistant-apps.

Supervisor-facing identifiers are deliberately untouched: io.hass.type stays addon, the addons, addon_configs and all_addon_configs map types stay as they are, the linked home directories in init-user keep their names, and the My Home Assistant redirect keeps its supervisor_addon path and a0d7b954_vscode slug.

Workflows

  • Moved from the addon-* reusable workflows to the app-* ones, and pinned every reference to workflows v4.0.0 by commit SHA.
  • Restored the release drafter as a standalone workflow, as it is no longer part of the CI workflow since workflows v3.0.0, and adjusted the permissions on the CI and deploy workflows accordingly.
  • Removed the lock and stale workflows.

Repository files

  • Updated the email address to opensource@frenck.dev. There were no frenck@opensource@frenck.dev occurrences to correct in this repository.
  • Bumped the copyright range to 2019-2026 and the maintenance badge to 2026.
  • Replaced the code of conduct with Contributor Covenant 3.0, with the reporting placeholder replaced by opensource@frenck.dev and the enforcement note paragraph removed.
  • Replaced the security policy with the current template, pointing at GitHub private vulnerability reporting.
  • Removed the architecture, chat and community forum badges. The chat and forum links remain in the support section.
  • Set YAMLLint to require one space before comments and disabled the line length rule.
  • Let Renovate pin GitHub Actions to commit SHAs.
  • Widened the CODEOWNERS pattern to .github/**, so it covers the workflow definitions rather than only the top level of .github.
  • Dropped the unused markdownlint configuration.

S6 user bundle

Moves the user bundle from /etc/s6-overlay/s6-rc.d to /etc/s6-overlay/user-bundles.d. Only the bundle moves; the five service definitions stay where they are.

Verified against a local amd64 build on debian-base:9.4.0:

  • Before the move, every start logs warning: defining user bundles in /etc/s6-overlay/s6-rc.d is deprecated. After it, the warning is gone.
  • Replaying the compile step that rc.init performs (s6-rc-compile -- /tmp/db /etc/s6-overlay/s6-rc.d /etc/s6-overlay/user-bundles.d /package/admin/s6-overlay-3.2.3.2/etc/s6-rc/sources) succeeds, and s6-rc-db contents user still lists all five services. This matters because rc.init clears the bundle directory argument entirely when s6-rc.d/user exists, so a silent no-op would have looked identical to a fix from the warning alone.

Bashio v0.19.0

No changes were needed. Bashio renamed bashio::addon.* to bashio::app.* and left the old names as deprecated aliases, but this repository never used them. The nine helpers it does use (bashio::config, bashio::config.has_value, bashio::exit.nok, bashio::fs.directory_exists, bashio::fs.file_exists, bashio::log.info, bashio::log.warning, bashio::services, bashio::services.available) all still exist unchanged in v0.19.0. v0.19.0 also enables inherit_errexit; every command substitution in the S6 scripts here is either guarded with || or operates on a file the script has just created, so none of them change behaviour.

Prettier, YAMLLint, Shellcheck and Hadolint all pass locally, as does a full amd64 image build.

The change points repository and documentation links at a renamed repository that is currently unavailable, leaving release, issue, contributor, action, commit, and documentation navigation broken. These links should be corrected or coordinated with the repository rename before merging.

Prepares this repository for the add-on to app rename landing in Home
Assistant 2026.2, and brings it in line with the other apps in the
organisation.

Rename

* "Add-on"/"Add-ons" become "App"/"Apps" throughout the documentation,
the readme template and the S6 script headers, keeping the existing

* "Home Assistant Community Add-ons" becomes "Home Assistant Community

  `hassio-addons/app-vscode`. The organisation is unchanged.
* The `org.opencontainers.image.url` label moves from
  `https://addons.community` to `https://frenck.dev/home-assistant-apps`.

Supervisor-facing identifiers are deliberately untouched: `io.hass.type`
stays `addon`, the `addons`, `addon_configs` and `all_addon_configs` map
types stay as they are, the linked home directories in `init-user` keep
their names, and the My Home Assistant redirect keeps its
`supervisor_addon` path and `a0d7b954_vscode` slug.

Workflows

* Moved from the `addon-*` reusable workflows to the `app-*` ones, and
pinned every reference to workflows v4.0.0 by commit SHA.
* Restored the release drafter as a standalone workflow, as it is no
longer part of the CI workflow since workflows v3.0.0, and adjusted the
permissions on the CI and deploy workflows accordingly.
* Removed the lock and stale workflows.

S6 user bundle

Moves the `user` bundle from `/etc/s6-overlay/s6-rc.d` to
`/etc/s6-overlay/user-bundles.d`. s6-overlay 3.2.3.2 deprecated the old
location and logs a warning on every start. Only the bundle moves; the
five service definitions stay where they are.
