Frequently Asked Questions

Debug Mode

HAP-NodeJS uses the debug library for logging output. You can enable all debug outputs of HAP-NodeJS by setting the debug environment variable like the following: DEBUG=HAP-NodeJS:*.
For example: DEBUG=HAP-NodeJS:* node light.js.
The default mDNS advertiser, ciao, has its own debug output. To see it as well, use DEBUG=HAP-NodeJS:*,ciao:*.
You may want to look at the documentation of debug library for greater control over debug output.

Which Node.js versions are supported?

HAP-NodeJS v2.3.0 supports these Node.js versions:

  • v22.12.0 or a newer v22 release (supported by Node.js until April 2027)
  • any v24 release (supported by Node.js until April 2028)
  • any v26 release (supported by Node.js until April 2029)

Older Node.js versions are not supported.

How to perform a factory reset of the Accessory

To fully reset your HAP-NodeJS instance follow the following steps:

  1. Navigate into the Home App and remove the pairing of your Accessory.
If HAP-NodeJS is still running at that point, this will also remove the pairing on the HAP-NodeJS side and you should be able to pair it again. To fully reset HAP-NodeJS (or if HAP-NodeJS is not running anymore or not reachable) go on with the next steps.
  2. Stop your HAP-NodeJS application.
  3. Delete the persist directory. By default, this is inside the directory you started your application from. If you set your own folder with HAPStorage.setCustomStoragePath, delete that folder instead.
  4. Restart your HAP-NodeJS application and pair it again in the Home App.
