Verified against current code (2026-07): still fails, but the failure has evolved. FileBytesReader(gettempdir()) now raises PermissionError while recursively walking macOS-protected temp subdirs (e.g. .../com.apple.appleaccountd/TemporaryItems/), rather than the original 2021 error.

Reframing the ask: the recursive walk should skip or gracefully handle unreadable directories (and surface an informative error, not a raw PermissionError, when the root itself is inaccessible). priority: low, Wave 2, self-contained. See misc/docs/dol_issues_report.md (#71).
