NOX OS — nχ (Night)

License: MIT Python 3.10+ Status: Experimental Tests: 44/44

A decentralized OS where processes are information-geometric subregions, every syscall is a signed RingCT transaction on a DAG, and privacy is Monero-native.

NOX is not a blockchain. It's not a Linux distribution. It's an experiment in what an operating system looks like when information geometry is the fundamental description and the kernel has no privileged interior access.

Architecture

Six layers, all operational:

Layer Component Status
0 Subregion Fabric — Wei entanglement wedges for process isolation Complete
1 DAG Consensus — MCMC tip selection, cumulative weight, no mining Complete
2 WASM Sandbox — Real wasmtime execution with memory limits Complete
3 Entropy Source — RDRAND + urandom + thermal noise (TSU analog) Complete
4 InfoGeo Monitor — logdet(Σ), H(attn), Λ-gate, OOD detection Complete
5 XMR Wallet — Monero-only, stealth addresses, Pedersen commitments Complete
6 P2P Network — Ed25519-signed gossip (transport stub) Partial

Quick Start

git clone https://github.com/jacquesmyo/nox-os.git
cd nox-os
pip install -e .
python nox/main.py

Design Principles

  1. Information geometry is fundamental. CPU/memory/disk are effective theory. Subregions and entropy boundaries are the real description.
  2. The kernel mediates boundaries, not interiors. Every syscall is a signed transaction on the DAG. The OS never has privileged access to process state.
  3. Monero-native. No BTC, no ETH, no USDC. Stealth addresses, Pedersen commitments, RingCT. Privacy is not optional.
  4. No mining. No fees. Consensus from cumulative weight. OS operations don't pay gas.
  5. CPU-only. Runs on a laptop.

What's Next (0.2)

  • Real P2P transport (TCP sockets, peer discovery, DAG sync)
  • Interactive shell / REPL
  • On-disk persistence (DAG, wallet, subregions)
  • Multi-node demo

Research Foundation

Built on concepts from the second-brain vault:

  • Black hole as information-geometric subregion (Wei 2606.03977)
  • Log-determinant degradation detection (Moe Subject Fork B)
  • Lambda-gate context saturation (Todorinov minimum mass analog)
  • Berry phase spectral discretization
