Origin Trail

Oregon Trail in space. Lead a crew of colonists on a one-way voyage from Earth to New Eden, across 15 star systems. Ration your Food, Water, Fuel, and Air, survive the random events that pick your crew off one by one, and hope enough of them make it to the promised world.

A mobile-first survival game built in Godot 4.

Gameplay

You start by outfitting your ship: pick a difficulty, hire a crew, and spend your credits on supplies. Then you travel, one leg at a time. Every leg burns through your consumables and throws an event at you — pirates, illness, asteroid fields, solar storms, hull breaches, alien contact, the occasional stroke of luck. Your choices, your crew's skills, and a bit of dice-rolling decide who lives.

Reach New Eden with survivors aboard and you win. Run out of Air, Food, or Water — or lose your whole crew — and the trail ends early.

Crew matter

Each colonist brings a skill (a mechanic who fixes the ship faster, a doctor who saves the sick, a negotiator who talks down aliens) and a risk (a gambler who loses your credits, a hothead who drains morale, someone prone to getting sick). Balancing a crew is half the game.

Difficulty

Three modes — Explorer, Settler, and Pioneer — scale your starting budget, shop prices, and the odds on every roll. Pioneer is brutal.

Running the game

Open the project in Godot 4 (4.4+) and press F5. There are no build scripts or CLI tools — all development happens in the Godot editor. The game targets mobile portrait orientation but runs fine on desktop.

Tech notes

  • Engine: Godot 4, GDScript, GL Compatibility renderer
  • Platforms: Android / iOS (portrait), also runs on desktop
  • Architecture: scene-to-scene flow with all state held in a single GameState autoload
  • Localization: multi-language support built in
intro → outfitting → travel → event → (shop / alien trade) → travel → … → win / game over

Status
