Would you mind adding a file documenting where you got the cities data, formats involved, how you converted it, etc?
I know cities aren't formed or disbanded very often but it's generally best to have the latest data, and it would be nice to be able to rely on this being accurate in the future.
Also, is this dataset for the whole planet, or just some countries?
