DataLabs is a Python-based data hub that uses Pandas and KaggleHub to download, clean, transform, and prepare datasets for analysis and testing. It demonstrates a simple and accessible workflow for working with real-world datasets and improving data quality.
DataLabs is a Python-powered data cleaning pipeline designed to demonstrate how datasets can be downloaded, inspected, cleaned, transformed, and prepared for further analysis using Pandas and KaggleHub.
The project provides a straightforward starting point for working with real-world datasets and applying common data-cleaning techniques before beginning data analysis or machine learning workflows.
- Dataset Downloading – Downloads datasets directly using KaggleHub.
- Data Inspection – Loads and examines datasets to identify missing, inconsistent, or incorrectly formatted values.
- Data Cleaning – Uses Pandas to clean and improve the quality of raw datasets.
- Data Transformation – Applies transformations to prepare data for analysis and testing.
- Missing Data Handling – Demonstrates methods for dealing with missing or incomplete values.
- Analysis Preparation – Produces cleaner datasets that can be used for further data analysis and machine learning.
- Jupyter Notebook Workflow – Uses an interactive Jupyter Notebook to demonstrate the data-cleaning process.
- Python 3.7 or higher
- A command-line environment (e.g., Terminal, PowerShell)
- Pandas
- KaggleHub
- Jupyter Notebook or JupyterLab
- (Optional) A virtual environment such as
venvorconda
Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/joshuajohnsonnn/DataLabs.git
cd DataLabs
Install the required dependencies:
pip install pandas kagglehub jupyter
Launch Jupyter Notebook:
jupyter notebook
Open the notebook located in:
src/KaggleDataSet.ipynb
Open and run:
src/KaggleDataSet.ipynb
The notebook downloads a dataset using KaggleHub and demonstrates a data-cleaning workflow using Pandas.
The project can be used to:
- Download datasets from Kaggle
- Load datasets into Pandas DataFrames
- Inspect raw data
- Identify missing or inconsistent values
- Clean and transform data
- Prepare datasets for analysis and testing
- Display cleaned datasets in tabular form
The project is designed to provide a practical introduction to data-cleaning techniques using Python.
