"Filter by tag" option not working

I have "filter by tag" turned on, and have the tag ">>testing" as the only entry in the list of tags. However, it is still syncing my entire library, not just items with that tag. Perhaps the special characters at the beginning are causing a problem? Please let me know if you need some additional data from me to figure this out. Thanks.

I realized I could edit the tag name in readwise. I changed it to "testing" and the bug is still there, so it isn't the special characters.

I also tried both with and without a trailing comma after the one entry. That didn't seem to affect things either.

I pointed Claude Code at the plugin and it gave me the following analysis:

I dug into this with debug logging on and think I found the root cause by reading through the bundled main.js (v2.4.3) directly.

The filterNotesByTag / filteredTags settings are read and shown in the settings UI, but nothing in the actual sync path filters on them:

In Controller.sync() (main.js line 14300), right before the library is written to the vault, there's just a placeholder comment where tag filtering should happen:

The full, unfiltered library object is passed straight into writeLibraryToMarkdown().

Same pattern in updateAllFrontmatter() (main.js line 14399):
// ...existing filtering logic...

again followed by processing the unfiltered library.

The one function that does filter per-highlight, filterHighlights() (~line 15850), only checks syncNotesOnly, is_deleted, and highlightDiscard — no tag check anywhere.

So the tag list you enter never gets consulted during a real sync, regardless of what's in it or how it's formatted — that matches both of our results. This looks like leftover placeholder code from an unfinished refactor rather than a logic bug in the filter itself. A fix would need actual book/tag filtering wired in before the write step in both of those methods.
