Organization

Our team consists of the following members:

  • Julia Hain – Telegram Bot Scripting, Orchestration, Presentation
  • Jutta Degele – Scoring, Dashboard, Webpage Development, Backend
  • Manh Phi Nguyen – Architecture, Backend, Notifications, Philips Hue
  • Sascha Krauss – Service Discovery, Service Modeling Methods, Documentation

The roles were initially defined based on the respective prior knowledge and clarified during the course of the hackathon. All tasks were carried out in one room with all team members present working face-to-face. This enabled us to discuss problems and find solutions without any delays.

Living Lab Process

According to the principle “Build what you use. Use what you build” the project is part of a Living Lab Environment of the Herman Hollerith Zentrum (HHZ) which aims to bundle different IoT projects created by students at HHZ intending to improve teaching and learning. This project was produced during the elective subject IoT and its Hackathon in 2017.

Development Method

For the Hackathon we used an adjusted scrum approach. First of all, we defined the project goal, designed a Value Proposition Canvas, a Business Model Canvas and a business process. Based on this information we defined the user stories. These were written into a Trello Board, which uses Kanban and the cards Backlog, To-Do, Work in Progress and Done. Additionally, we created an Information card containing supplementary resources.

Trello Board

During development we discussed our progress in an hourly stand up meeting. Here we also talked about problems and future tasks. To stay in sync and to document our project we created this github repository which also contains the complete project.

Ad Hoc communication between the group members during the project was done in person as well as in a Telegram group.

During the hackathon we used the following tools:

  • Signavio (BPMN Diagram)
  • StruktEd (Nassi-Shneiderman Diagram)
  • PuTTY (Remote Access on Raspberry Pi)
  • WinSCP (FTP)
  • Notepad++ (Editor)
  • Jupyter Notebook (Python Scripting)
  • Postman (REST Calls)
  • Google Docs (Documentation)
  • http://goqr.me/de/ (QR Code Generator)
  • Powerpoint (Presentation)
