NFguardian - block out porn & ads

Intro

NFguardian let you setup a personal router which blocks out ads and porn sites from your home. The host list is very similar to what is being used in https://pi-hole.net/ except that no raspberry pi is needed and most popular porn sites are blocked, too.

Requirements

  • Linux x86_64 machine with git installed (just needed for building the firmware image)
  • A TP-Link TL WR-1043-ND router (get it 2nd-hand on EBay for ~20$)

Usage

  • Power the device and connect the first switch port with your PC via cable.
  • Connect to the stock firmware. Upload and flash the firmware image (factory build).
  • Remove cable from PC and connect to 'CrazySSID' with password 'CrazyPwd'.
  • Open https://192.168.1.1 in order to configure the router (first accept the certificate).
  • Connect WAN and modem via cable to get internet access.
  • Ad- and pornsite-blocking should work out of the box.
