Getting Started

A quick tutorial to get you up and running.

Welcome to the Getting started guide. It'll quickly teach you how to setup the app and get it up and running with the rest of the system.

  1. Ensure that the PiLock Server is running.
  2. Export your SSL Public key. This can be done by:
    • Copying it from your RasPi to a USB drive.
    • Exporting it from your browser (easier).
      • For Firefox Users, click here.
      • For Chrome Users, click here.
  3. After you have exported your public key, name it pilock.crt and save it to the root of the internal storage on your android smartphone/tablet, for example: /sdcard/pilock.crt
  4. Download and install the APK. (It'll come soon to the Play Store, I promise :D).
  5. When the app first starts up, it will ask you for your server's URL. The server needs to use HTTPS for authentication (plain HTTP is NOT supported). If your server's address is https://lock.example.com/, you should type https://lock.example.com (notice the absence of the trailing slash).
  6. Now it's time to type in your login credentials. This will be the ones you defined when you created a superuser when installing the server software.
  7. Hit the login button. If the credentials you typed in were correct, it will display your PIN and lead you to the PIN entry screen. It is advised you change it to something you can remember easily by hitting the options icon on the upper right corner of the screen and selecting "Change Pin".

Done!
