[BUG]2.1.7 + SUNSDR DX VERSION 88.8

Hello:
I am new with ArtemisSDR.
Testing with a SUNSDR2 DX
It runs (i can see spectrum) but i don't have RX Audio on VAC or SUNSDR Phone OUT.
I am sure i am doing something wrong.

HI... Don't worry, the V2.1.7 doesn't work at all with either Sun Pro and DX. We hope that Kosta will produce an upgrade soon ;) By the way, you should install the V2.1.6 which works pretty well (PRO and DX) even if some bugs are still remaining. Enjoy ;)

Hi runahue, sorry for the slow reply — I've been out of town traveling for the past couple of weeks.

Quick clarification first: Bernie's reply above (that v2.1.7 was broken on both DX and PRO) was based on his PRO experience. The v2.1.7 regression was specifically on the PRO — the DX audio path was not touched in v2.1.7 and should be working. So your "no RX audio" symptom on the DX is most likely a setup question, not a v2.1.7 regression.

That said, v2.1.8 just shipped (it reverts the PRO change so the project as a whole is back on track):

For your DX setup specifically, a few things to check that commonly trip new users:

1. Audio output route. Setup → Audio → Primary tab: is "Sound Card" set to your actual playback device (e.g. your default speakers / headphones / sound card)? If it's set to a VAC device with nothing on the other side, you'll get spectrum but no audible audio.
2. VAC1 enabled / not. If you don't have a digital-mode app running (WSJT-X, JTDX, FLDIGI, Decodium), you don't need VAC1 enabled — the RX audio goes straight to the Primary sound device. If VAC1 is on with no client on the other side, RX audio can route into a dead end.
3. MUT button. Below the panadapter on the left — make sure the MUT button isn't engaged.
4. AF / volume slider. "Master AF" slider — make sure it's not at zero. (Quick sanity check.)
5. cmASIO — if you have an ASIO interface and selected the cmASIO path under Setup → Audio → cmASIO, make sure it's configured + you see a small green "cm" icon at the bottom-right after restart.

What audio device do you have selected under Setup → Audio → Primary, and is VAC1 turned on under VAC1 tab? Those two answers will narrow it down quickly.

Also — radio firmware version please (radio web UI → main page). I track this on every report.

Heads up that I'm less involved with the project day-to-day right now, so follow-up may be slower than ideal. Welcome to Artemis though, and happy to help get the audio sorted.

Hi runahue — sorry, my mistake. You're right that there's no "Primary" tab on a SunSDR build, and FW 88.8 noted, thanks.

The SunSDR2 DX has no built-in audio codec the way the Anan / HPSDR family does, so there's no "Primary sound card" page to configure. RX audio has to leave the radio over the network and reach your speakers through one of two paths inside Artemis:

Option 1 — VAC1 (easiest for non-digital operating):

Setup → Audio → VAC1 tab:

• Tick "Enable VAC1"
• Driver: try MME first (most compatible)
• Output: pick your PC speakers / headphones / sound card from the dropdown
• Input: not needed right now (only matters if you're sending TX audio in from a digital app like WSJT-X)
• Sample Rate: 48000
• Apply / OK and you should hear RX audio out of the chosen device.

Option 2 — cmASIO (if you have a dedicated ASIO interface like RME, Focusrite, MOTU):

Setup → Audio → cmASIO tab:

• Pick your ASIO device from "Available ASIO Device(s)"
• Pick the IN pair and OUT pair (the channel pairs your interface exposes)
• Pick the MIC source
• Click Make Active
• Restart Artemis — a small green "cm" icon should appear in the bottom-right status bar after restart, audio flows directly to the ASIO interface

For most users without a dedicated ASIO interface, Option 1 (VAC1) is what you want. Try that first.

Side note for both setups: the radio's front-panel headphone jack will NOT produce audio with Artemis, regardless of what you configure here — Artemis routes RX audio entirely through the PC sound chain, not back to the radio's local audio output. That's a known architectural limitation of the current SunSDR support and is being tracked separately. If you want headphones, plug them into the PC sound card / ASIO interface, not the radio.

Let me know how VAC1 goes — should be a few clicks and you'll have audio.
