Supersedes #558 (Dependabot); Part of DF12-110

Bumps the pinned toolchain from nightly-2026-06-29 to nightly-2026-10-23 (the content of Dependabot's #558) and carries the one kind of fix it needs: the new Clippy flags redundant_field_names in the code that the thiserror #[from] derive and diesel's QueryableByName derive expand to, so each of the two modules declares #![expect(clippy::redundant_field_names, reason = ...)].

Local gates: cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings clean, make check-fmt, make lint-whitaker and make test-rust pass.

Summary by Sourcery

Enhancements:

  • Update the pinned Rust toolchain to nightly-2026-10-23 and accommodate new Clippy diagnostics from generated code.

  • Pin the Rust toolchain to nightly-2026-10-23.
  • Add module-level expectations for clippy::redundant_field_names in the Diesel test support and thiserror error modules. Document the derive expansions that trigger the lint.
  • Run cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings, make check-fmt, make lint-whitaker and make test-rust. The PR reports that all pass.

Walkthrough

The PR updates the pinned Rust nightly from nightly-2026-06-29 to nightly-2026-10-23. It also adds Clippy expectations for redundant field names generated by Diesel and thiserror macros.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 0 functions across 2 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Full details: Testing (Overall)

Explanation

Pass this check. The reviewed range changes only the pinned Rust toolchain and adds module-level Clippy expectations for derive-generated fields. It introduces no application functionality or runtime behaviour, so the substantive-test requirement does not apply. The toolchain change concerns a third-party tool and does not require additional repository tests under this check.

Full details: User-Facing Documentation

Explanation

The pull request changes only the pinned Rust toolchain and adds module-level Clippy expectations for diagnostics emitted by thiserror and Diesel derive expansions. It does not add or change user-facing functionality, CLI behaviour, APIs, or migration requirements. No user-guide update is required.

Full details: Module-Level Documentation

Explanation

Accept the change. Both modified Rust modules carry clear module-level //! documentation. example_data_seeding_world.rs describes its support types and step definitions for example-data startup-seeding scenarios. seed_registry_cli/error.rs describes the error types for the seed-registry CLI. The documentation was already present in the base revision and remains intact; the pull request adds no undocumented module.

Full details: Testing (Unit And Behavioural)

Explanation

Pass this check. The pull request changes only the pinned toolchain and adds module-level clippy::redundant_field_names expectations for derive-generated code in backend/tests/support/example_data_seeding_world.rs and crates/example-data/src/seed_registry_cli/error.rs. It does not change functional behaviour or introduce a workflow requiring new unit, behavioural, or end-to-end tests.

Full details: Testing (Property / Proof)

Explanation

The pull request only updates the pinned Rust nightly and adds module-level Clippy expectations for generated-code diagnostics. It introduces no invariant over inputs, states, orderings, or transitions, and it introduces no lemma or proof assumption. A property test or exhaustive proof is therefore not required.

Full details: Unit Architecture

Explanation

The pull request only changes the pinned Rust toolchain and adds two module-level #![expect(clippy::redundant_field_names, reason = ...)] attributes. The diff does not add or change queries, commands, fallible operations, dependencies, state mutation, or side-effects. Unit Architecture is therefore not violated.

Full details: Domain Architecture

Explanation

Pass. The pull request changes only the pinned Rust toolchain and adds module-level Clippy expectations for derive-generated redundant_field_names diagnostics. It does not change domain entities, policies, commands, repositories, adapters, transport handling, or persistence behaviour. No domain-boundary violation is introduced.

Full details: Observability

Explanation

The pull request changes only the pinned Rust nightly and adds two module-level Clippy expectations for derive-generated field names. It introduces no production operational behaviour, service boundary, queue, storage flow, retry path, or externally observable state transition. No additional logging, metrics, tracing, or alerts are required by this check.

Full details: Developer Documentation

Explanation

Update the developer documentation for the changed Rust toolchain requirement. The pull request changes rust-toolchain.toml from nightly-2026-06-29 to nightly-2026-10-23, but it does not change docs/developers-guide.md. The guide only states that rust-toolchain.toml pins a dated nightly and lists its components; it does not identify the required nightly version. This pull request therefore introduces a tooling requirement that is not clearly documented in the developer's guide.

Resolution

Add the required nightly-2026-10-23 version to the Rust toolchain section of docs/developers-guide.md. State that local development and CI use this pinned nightly, and update the guide with each deliberate toolchain bump.

Full details: Testing (Compile-Time / Ui)

Explanation

The pull request changes Rust compile-time lint handling. It adds module-level #![expect(clippy::redundant_field_names, ...)] attributes for the QueryableByName and thiserror derive expansions, but it adds no compile-time test. The existing trybuild tests cover unrelated pagination, SHA-2 formatting, and module wiring cases.

Resolution

Add focused Rust trybuild coverage for the thiserror #[from] and Diesel QueryableByName expansions. Run the fixtures with the pinned nightly and lint configuration, and assert the intended compile-time result or diagnostic.

  • Autofix · Keep fixing CodeRabbit findings and required CI, and resolving merge conflicts

Set the nightly pin to a newer date.
Let generated field names pass the gate.
Name Diesel’s expansion in the note.
Record what thiserror adds to the quote.
Keep each lint expectation clear and straight.

Reviewer's Guide

Bumps the workspace Rust nightly from 2026-06-29 to 2026-10-23 and adds narrowly scoped, reason-documented Clippy expectations for redundant field names emitted by Diesel and thiserror derives, with formatting, lint, Clippy, and test gates reported passing.

File-Level Changes

Change Details Files
Advance the pinned Rust nightly toolchain while preserving the existing minimal profile and required components.
  • Update the toolchain channel from nightly-2026-06-29 to nightly-2026-10-23.
  • Retain rustfmt, clippy, and rust-analyzer components with the minimal profile.
  • Review the toolchain compatibility comment and confirm the new nightly remains buildable.
rust-toolchain.toml
Add targeted Clippy expectations for redundant field names introduced by macro-generated code.
  • Allow and document the lint in the Diesel QueryableByName test support module.
  • Allow and document the lint in the thiserror-derived CLI error module.
  • Keep the expectations scoped to modules whose derives generate the flagged field initializers.
