This PR implements RFC #7416 requirements C3 and C4, establishing dual-session binding between controller and executor with generation fencing to prevent duplicate debits under partial failure scenarios.

What Changed

  • Dual-session binding (C3): Integrated bind_controller_executor_sessions into executor.py to ensure executor observes complete controller attempt history before retry operations
  • Generation fencing (C4): Added GenerationFenceValidator to settlement.py to guarantee single debit under partial failure via monotonic generation tracking
  • Recovery automation: Replaced TurnRecoveryBlockedError with automatic retry via decide_reconciliation in recovery.py, eliminating manual intervention requirements
  • Concurrency protection: Added 7 exclusive_file_locks across critical sections to prevent race conditions
  • TOCTOU fixes: Resolved 4 time-of-check-time-of-use races in settlement and recovery paths
  • Persistence hardening: Fixed 3 persistence bugs in journal_store.py related to transaction atomicity
  • Identity extension: Extended SettlementIdentity with controller_session_id, executor_session_id, and generation fields for complete session tracking
  • Generation propagation: Updated 4 increment_generation callsites to correctly pass runtime_root parameter

Why This Matters

C3 benefits: Executor can now make informed retry decisions based on full controller history, preventing lost updates and inconsistent state recovery.

C4 benefits: Generation fencing ensures exactly-once debit semantics even when executor crashes between generation increment and settlement write, eliminating double-charge bugs.

Testing Done

  • Unit tests covering generation fence validation logic
  • Integration tests for dual-session binding scenarios
  • Recovery path tests with simulated executor crashes
  • Concurrency stress tests with parallel settlement attempts
  • Manual verification of generation monotonicity under failure injection

Breaking Changes

increment_generation signature change: All callsites must now pass runtime_root parameter for proper generation tracking. Updated all 4 existing callsites in this PR.

This pull request has merge conflicts with main and cannot be merged
until they are resolved. Please rebase or merge the base branch, @hhyykk.

Choose the remote for the base repository, not an out-of-date fork.
For a fork clone, first inspect git remote -v; upstream must point
to https://github.com/loopx-project/loopx.git. If it is absent, add it
with git remote add upstream https://github.com/loopx-project/loopx.git.
Then run:

git fetch upstream
git rebase upstream/main
# Resolve each conflict, git add the resolved files, then git rebase --continue.
git push --force-with-lease origin HEAD

For a same-repository clone whose origin points to
https://github.com/loopx-project/loopx.git, use origin instead of
upstream for fetch/rebase. If you prefer merging the base, use
git merge <base-remote>/main and push normally.

Keep the DCO Signed-off-by trailer on every commit when you rebase.

Closing this implementation after source review. The C3/C4 requirements remain open under the controller/executor RFC; this closure does not mark them delivered.

The current implementation introduces a parallel session store and unconditional dual-session binding instead of extending the existing binding and typed effect owners behind the required opt-in boundary. It also has unresolved call-chain defects: the lock uses an unsupported timeout keyword, the recovery caller omits newly required arguments, and the unchanged settlement function does not accept the new session arguments. Automatic reconciliation must not override a typed refusal without preserving its authority and original effect identity.

Future work should start from the existing session/effect owners, preserve the qualified single-session path, and deliver independently testable role/generation and recovery changes. Rebasing this implementation alone would not resolve those gaps.
