Getting Started

Quick Start

  1. Clone the repository

    git clone <repository-url>
    cd Summary_Maker
  2. Install dependencies

    npm install
  3. Set up your environment

    • Copy .env.example to .env.local
    • Fill in the required variables (see Environment Variables Guide)
    • You'll need accounts for:
      • Convex (free tier available) - Database
      • Clerk (free tier available) - Authentication
      • OpenRouter - AI model access
      • Polar (optional) - Only if using subscriptions
    • See user_guide.md for detailed setup instructions
  4. Run the development server

    # Start Convex (in a separate terminal)
    npx convex dev
    
    # Start Next.js (in another terminal)
    npm run dev
  5. Open your browser

    • Navigate to http://localhost:3420
    • Sign up for an account and start creating!

How It Works

  5. Study: Use the generated materials to prepare for exams
  6. Export: Save to your preferred format or export to Notion

Requirements

  • Node.js 18+ and npm
