Obsession Charging Animation

A real Android app that shows a themed full-screen animation (pulsing cracked heart, battery %, twinkling stars, in the red/black/cream palette) every time you plug in the charger. No root needed — uses the same "Display over other apps" permission that popular Play Store charging- animation apps use.

Honest limits

  • Shows reliably once your phone is unlocked. It won't paint over an actively locked screen — that layer needs system-level privileges a sideloaded app can't get without root.
  • Auto-dismisses after 6 seconds, on unplug, or on tap (won't block your phone).
  • This is a separate app from the icon pack — install both side by side.

Get the APK (same process as before)

  1. Create a new GitHub repo (or reuse a new folder in the same account).
  2. Upload every file from this folder, including the hidden .github folder and the debug.keystore file at the root.
  3. Commit to main.
  4. Go to the Actions tab, wait for the green checkmark.
  5. Open that run → Artifacts → download obsession-charging-apk, extract the zip to get app-debug.apk.

Install and set up

  1. Tap app-debug.apk → install (allow unknown sources if prompted).
  2. Open the app.
  3. Tap "1. Allow Display over other apps" → toggle it on for this app in the settings screen that opens → go back.
  4. Tap "2. Preview animation now" to see it immediately (don't need to actually plug in the charger to test it).
  5. On Realme, also go to Settings → Battery → this app and turn off battery optimization for "Obsession Charging" — ColorOS aggressively kills background apps otherwise, which can stop the plug-in trigger from firing.

From then on, it plays automatically every time you connect the charger.

Customizing

All animation logic is in ChargingAnimationView.java — colors are at the top as named constants, the shapes are drawn with Canvas paths, and the 6-second duration is set in ChargingOverlay.java (search for 6000). Tell me what you want changed (duration, colors, adding real illustrated art as a PNG instead of the drawn heart) and I'll adjust it directly.
