Supersedes #198. That PR only goes to 8.17.1, which fixes one of the three ws advisories.

Closes #198.

Advisories fixed

Advisory Affected Fixed in
GHSA-3h5v-q93c-6h6q: DoS via many HTTP headers <8.17.1 8.17.1
GHSA-58qx-3vcg-4xpx: uninitialized memory disclosure <8.20.1 8.20.1
GHSA-96hv-2xvq-fx4p: memory exhaustion via tiny fragments <8.21.0 8.21.0

ws is build-time only (laravel-mix → webpack-dev-server → ws, ^8.13.0), so this doesn't affect anything shipped in the package. Only the ws entry in package-lock.json changes.

Verification

  • npm ci + mix --production (Node 20) builds successfully, and public/app.css is byte-identical to the build from master's lockfile.
  • npm audit: ws no longer reported.

Why not npm audit fix

A plain npm audit fix breaks the build. It upgrades webpack to 5.111, which removed webpack/lib/SizeFormatHelpers, a file laravel-mix 6 requires:

[webpack-cli] Error: Cannot find module 'webpack/lib/SizeFormatHelpers'

The remaining advisories are in the laravel-mix toolchain and need a move to Vite to clear properly.

Note

laravel-mix doesn't currently run on Node 22+ (require is not defined in ES module scope from its bundled yargs). Use Node 20 to build assets. This is unrelated to this change; master behaves the same.

Fixes GHSA-3h5v-q93c-6h6q, GHSA-58qx-3vcg-4xpx and GHSA-96hv-2xvq-fx4p.
ws is a build-time dependency (laravel-mix > webpack-dev-server).
