…sing BTI note: Ubuntu 24.04's glibc startup objects (#2786) (#2914) The note was blamed on apt.llvm.org's static libc++; it isn't that (every libc++/libc++abi object carries BTI, PAC). lld drops it because noble's glibc 2.39 Scrt1.o, crti.o and crtn.o aren't built with branch protection and have no landing pads, so no executable linked on 24.04 can carry it, and -z force-bti would fault at _start. On arm64 the step now fails when main() doesn't open with paciasp (the helper lost -mbranch-protection=standard) and warns, with the real reason, when the BTI/PAC note is missing. release/0.9(#2741), cherry-picked by hand (git cherry-pick -x 3b70690a) becausebackport.yml's pick conflicted.The conflict: one line of
SECURITY.md.release/0.9still says the helper "runs as root", since the UID drop isn't on this line. That wording stays, and the PAC/BTI text replaces the old "no BTI/PAC note until #2786" clause.release.ymlpicked cleanly.Fixes #2786 on v0.9.1.
