Feature Request :Hovering using keys

Right now, there’s no way to actually "hover" over stuff using just the keyboard. I’m thinking we should have a feature where the mouse follows your selection.

Basically:

If I select a column, the mouse pointer should automatically move to the center of it.

If I move into a cell, it moves to the center of that cell.

Same for sub-cells.

This would be huge for things like the YouTube player or other sites where you have to hover to see the controls or overlays. Since you can't really "hover" with a keyboard right now, this would fix that.

Can we get something like this added?

Unfortunately, hover support does not seem to be possible with the way stochos works. The program uses zwlr_virtual_pointer_v1 to control the mouse, and while it reliably moves the cursor and performs clicks, it does not seem to trigger wl_pointer.enter events on underlying windows, which is what applications need to activate hover state.

I explored a few approaches (tearing down the overlay before moving, nudging the pointer after teardown) but none produced reliable results. The core issue is that triggering a proper hover requires the pointer to physically enter the target window from outside, and virtual pointer motion events are not guaranteed to do this, it depends entirely on the compositor's implementation.

On X11 the situation is similar: WarpPointer generates MotionNotify but not EnterNotify(NotifyNormal), which is what most applications actually respond to for hover state.

A potential workaround would be using a real input device via something like uinput, but that requires elevated privileges which is outside the scope of this project.

I will keep an eye on this and if a clean solution presents itself I will revisit it. Ideas and contributions are very welcome.

Just spitballing here, would lerping the mouse movement work mb? I don't have expertise in this, so I'm not sure how exactly hover events are triggered, like, does it check for small enough mouse position delta? Or is it (partially) hardware-driven?
