Running stochos on a X11 system with compositor causes a black screen

My stack:

• Arch Linux
• xorg-server 21.1.24
• picom 13
• bspwm 0.9.12
• stochos 1.0.0

When I start stochos, both my screens turn black. If I press some key, the grid appears and everything behaves as expected.
This doesn't happen when a compositor (picom, in my case) isn't running, as stochos behaves as expected - grid appears right away.
