🧬 BioAnalyzer

Bioinformatics Analysis, Without the Barrier to Entry

A browser-based bioinformatics workspace for DNA, RNA, protein, and PDB structure data β€”
no installs, no command line, no prior bioinformatics-software experience required.

🎯 The Problem

Real bioinformatics analysis β€” nucleotide statistics, ORF detection, protein physicochemistry, structure prediction, profile scoring β€” normally lives behind a wall of command-line tools, local installs, and packages like BioPython, HMMER, or EMBOSS.

That wall is exactly where most students and newcomers to computational biology get stuck. The concepts are already dense; a terminal and a dependency list shouldn't be the first obstacle. What's missing is a place to paste a sequence and actually see the analysis, without setting up an environment first.

πŸ’‘ The Solution

BioAnalyzer turns sequence analysis into a browser tab.

Paste a raw DNA, RNA, or protein sequence β€” or drop in a FASTA, FASTQ, or PDB file β€” and BioAnalyzer runs the full analysis instantly: nucleotide composition, ORF scanning, protein physicochemistry, an AlphaFold-style folding explainer, and a real bioinformatics toolkit (PSSM, HMM, Viterbi decoding, BLOSUM62 alignment). Every result is exportable to CSV.

Around that core tool sits a complete product experience:

Area What it does
🧬 BioAnalyzer Pro The analysis engine β€” sequence input, file upload, and six dedicated result tabs
πŸ“– Learning Hub A guided introduction to bioinformatics: concepts, applications, tools, and a step-by-step learning path
πŸ“š Reference Library A searchable collection of books, articles, and research papers
πŸ” Accounts Login / sign-up flow and an editable user profile

Paste a sequence β€” or generate a random one β€” and hit Analyze. Walk through the Nucleotide, Protein, 3D Structure, ORF Scanner, Bio Tools, and PDB Viewer tabs to see the full result set.

πŸ–ΌοΈ A Closer Look

BioAnalyzer Pro β€” sequence input, file upload, and the Bio Tools panel (PSSM / HMM / Viterbi / Alignment)
Nucleotide Analysis β€” composition, GC/AT content, melting temp, complement strands Protein Analysis β€” physicochemical summary, charge & stability, key residues
3D Structure & Folding β€” primary β†’ quaternary structure, plus an AlphaFold pipeline explainer ORF Scanner β€” every open reading frame, with start/end, length, and translated AA length

✨ Features

🧬 Sequence input, three ways. Paste DNA/RNA/protein directly, upload a .fasta, .fastq, or .pdb file, or generate a random DNA/RNA sequence to try the tool instantly. Detected sequence type (DNA vs RNA vs protein) is automatic.

πŸ“Š Six analysis tabs, one input. Nucleotide (length, type, GC/AT content, AT/GC ratio, melting temperature, complement, reverse complement, RNA transcription, base distribution). Protein Analysis (molecular weight, isoelectric point, GRAVY, aliphatic and instability index, net charge, extinction coefficient, disulfide bonds, codon map, composition, hydrophobicity, chemical groups) across eight sub-views. 3D Structure & Folding (a visual walk from primary to quaternary structure, plus an AlphaFold-style pipeline: input β†’ MSA β†’ pair embedding β†’ Evoformer β†’ structure module β†’ 3D output, with pLDDT and contact-map explainers). ORF Scanner (every open reading frame with start, end, length, codon count, and AA length). Bio Tools (PSSM generation from a multiple sequence alignment, HMM, Viterbi decoding, and BLOSUM62 alignment). PDB Viewer (chain-by-chain inspection of real deposited structures).

πŸ“€ Nothing gets trapped in the browser. Every computed table is exportable to CSV for further analysis or coursework.

πŸ“– A genuine learning path, not just a tool. The Learning Hub explains what bioinformatics is, its real-world applications (genomics, clinical informatics, drug discovery, healthcare analytics), the tools the field runs on (Python, R, Bioconductor), a short history of genomic analysis, case studies, and a five-step path from "start with Python" to "apply ML to healthcare."

πŸ“š A reference library built in. Curated books, articles, and research papers, searchable and organized by type, for anyone who wants to go deeper than the tool itself.

πŸ” Accounts and a personal workspace. Email/password sign-up and login (with Facebook/Google entry points in the UI) and a profile page for name, phone, email, address, and avatar.

🧩 Under the Hood

BioAnalyzer is a client-side single-page application built with Create React App β€” deliberately lightweight, with no custom backend of its own yet.

  • React 18 + React Router 7 β€” component-driven UI with client-side routing across the marketing pages, the analyzer, and the auth flow.
  • Bootstrap 5 + React-Bootstrap β€” the layout and component grid the interface is built on.
  • react-icons β€” the icon set used throughout the navigation, feature cards, and result panels.
  • gh-pages β€” configured for static deployment; the live demo is hosted on Vercel.
  • Create React App / react-scripts β€” the build tooling, dev server, and test runner.
