Technical reviewBest possible solution: Retain the shared exit check and the independent assertions owned by each teardown scenario. Do we have a high-confidence way to reproduce the issue? This is test refactoring rather than a reported product failure; inspection confirms the duplicated exit checks, and no target code was executed during review. Is this the best way to solve the issue? The small local helper appropriately reuses the existing runner while leaving scenario-specific expectations at their call sites. Six teardown tests need the same guarantee: the child test process exits on its own, within ten seconds, with status 1. They now share that check. Each test keeps its own assertions about the failure, cleanup, or timeout it exercises. An unrelated failure also exits 1.
All 37 tests passed before and after. As a negative check, I changed the child’s worker-stop error without changing its exit status. The owning test failed on the wrong error, as intended. I ran these in an isolated container, not against a live Kubernetes cluster.
