isomd5sum provides a way of making use of the ISO9660 application data
area to store md5sum data about the iso. This allows you to check the
iso given nothing more than the iso itself.

isomd5sum supports Linux/Unix and Windows. Pre-built Windows executables
and an installer are available from the GitHub Releases page.

## Available Tools

### MD5 Tools
- **implantisomd5** — Embed an MD5 checksum into an ISO image
- **checkisomd5** — Verify an MD5 or SHA-256 checksum embedded in an ISO image

### SHA-256 Tools
- **implantisosha** — Embed a SHA-256 checksum into an ISO image
- **checkisosha** — Verify a SHA-256 or MD5 checksum embedded in an ISO image

Both check tools auto-detect the hash type stored in the image.

## Usage

### Embedding a Checksum

```bash
# Embed MD5 checksum (use --force to overwrite an existing checksum)
implantisomd5 [--force] myimage.iso
# Embed SHA-256 checksum
implantisosha [--force] myimage.iso
```

### Verifying a Checksum

```bash
# Verify checksum (auto-detects MD5 or SHA-256)
checkisomd5 myimage.iso
checkisosha myimage.iso
# Verbose output
checkisomd5 --verbose myimage.iso
# Print embedded checksum only, without re-computing
checkisomd5 --md5sumonly myimage.iso
checkisosha --md5sumonly myimage.iso
```

### Works on Devices/Media

You can verify a physical disc or removable drive directly — no need to
create an image file first.

**Linux/Unix** — use the raw device node:

```bash
checkisomd5 /dev/sr0
```

**Windows** — use the Win32 device path (NT path prefix `\\.\`):

```cmd
checkisomd5 \\.\I:
```

Where `I:` is your CD/DVD or USB drive letter. The `\\.\` prefix tells
Windows to open the device directly rather than as a file-system path.
Any drive letter that exposes a raw block device can be used this way
(e.g. `\\.\D:`, `\\.\E:`).

## Building

### Linux/Unix

```bash
make
make install
```

### Cross-Platform (CMake)

```bash
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make
make install
```

For full Windows build and installer instructions, see
[docs/WINDOWS_BUILD.md](docs/WINDOWS_BUILD.md).
