compatibility with p100 and p110

hi! thanks for a great repo! is it a lot of work to add p100 and p110 plugs to the compatible devices? I am quite new to coding so I don't know where to start. I can find my p110, but I cannot toggle it on or off (await device.toggle() causes no error, but nothing happens at plug).
Just close the issue if is a lot of work. :)

Hi @sugarjo, thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately the Tapo devices seem to have different commands than TP-Link's Kasa products. I've received a number of requests to add support for Tapo devices so I'll try and put in some time on an upcoming weekend to start adding support for them. I don't have a good sense of timeline but I'll keep this issue open :)

Status update: Tapo devices (P100, P110, P115, etc.) use a fundamentally different protocol than the Kasa line that this library supports.

Key differences:

• Tapo devices use a different cloud API endpoint and authentication mechanism
• The command structure for controlling devices is different
• Tapo devices use encryption for local control that Kasa devices don't

Alternative libraries for Tapo devices:

• python-kasa - Now supports many Tapo devices
• tapo - Rust library with Python bindings specifically for Tapo

Adding Tapo support would essentially require building a separate client implementation. For users needing Tapo support now, the above alternatives may be helpful.

Keeping this open as a feature request, but it would be a significant undertaking.

Thanks for the interest! Unfortunately, the P100 and P110 are Tapo devices which use a completely different protocol (KLAP) and cloud API than the Kasa devices this library supports. The Kasa Cloud API's passthrough method doesn't work for Tapo devices — they simply don't respond to the same commands.

For controlling P100/P110 devices, I'd recommend python-kasa which supports both Kasa and Tapo devices over your local network, including KLAP protocol support.

Closing as out of scope since this library specifically targets the Kasa Cloud API.

Update: Tapo cloud support has been added in PR #112!

After reverse-engineering the Tapo Android APK, it turns out the Tapo cloud API uses the same V2 HMAC-SHA1 signing protocol as Kasa — just with a different cloud host (n-wap.i.tplinkcloud.com), different signing keys, and a slightly different passthrough format. Same TP-Link credentials work for both.

The library now automatically authenticates against both clouds and returns a unified device list. Each device has a cloud_type attribute ("kasa" or "tapo") for identification. P100, P110, L530, and other Tapo devices should work with basic on/off control.

This is best-effort since I don't have Tapo hardware to test with, so please open a new issue if you run into problems with specific devices.
