Train 26b: name-only calls marked, typed receivers resolve, honest path gaps and counts - #383
Conversation
…as a proven edge A new gate with one fixture root per language (JS, TS, Python, Go, and the implicit-receiver languages Java, Kotlin, C#, C++, Swift, Ruby). Each root holds paraphrased repros of graded false rows where a member call (or a bare call under an implicit receiver) was bound to a same-named in-repo definition with nothing proving the receiver's class: a request context's onerror drawn to the caller file's Application.onerror, a typed Go struct field drawn to Merger.Get, WeakMap/Promise/stream/dict/list receivers in a file that names the class, a `done` parameter drawn to another file's closure, `read = os.read` / `feed = parser.feed` aliases, and a bare flush()/render() drawn to an unrelated class. The contract: such a call either resolves with receiver evidence (self/this and the class cone, a construction in scope, a constructor-assigned field, a type annotation or declaration, an import) or keeps its row with an on-row hedge, via="name" (MCP: "via":"name"), identical on --callees, --callers, --impact, --path, --connect, --expand <calls>, --for <calls> and MCP. A true target is never dropped. Near-miss arms pin the evidence edges a new rule could kill: this/self calls, constructor-assigned fields, typed parameters, import aliases, same-class and superclass calls in Java/Kotlin/C#/C++/Swift, Ruby implicit self, included modules and top-level defs. The positive arms are red on the integration/train-25 binary; the fix follows. Registered in regression.sh and the shard weights; gate count 664 -> 665. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The reader's exit status is now checked at every call site: a crash or a non-numeric defs= FAILs the arm instead of reading as "no rows" (a planted defs="x" K arm pins it). App.screen becomes a property, so self.screen carries no evidence and repaint doubles as the proven-plus-name-only dedup near miss. The --for HOP blocks (<h n=...><calls>) are gated for encode, respond, pipePayload and an object-literal module's back (this.ctx.get). Evidence that must RESOLVE is pinned exactly: a constructor-assigned JS field, Go typed struct fields and embedded fields. notFound's reply.code()/send() are marked like respondWith's send(). --impact inherits the hedge at d=2 (viaModule, serve) unless an all-proven path reaches the row (both, through new Reply().send). The legend of every surface, and the MCP tool description or answer, must define via="name" with what it does NOT mean. Sibling shapes: a JS alias and a destructured binding of ctx.onerror, super.m() in JS and Java, class-name receivers in JS and Python, globals Reflect/Atomics beside in-repo get/add, a Python outside from-import, a Go field or local named log beside the in-repo log package. Repros of earlier graded false callees: exec Cmd.Output, Date#getTime, list.append (red), with fmt.Errorf, strings.Split and the global Response pinned clean. Arms already green on the pre-change binary are labelled as guards. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…; typed receivers resolve
A member call (or an implicit-receiver bare call) whose receiver nothing proves
used to show one confident row per same-named definition the name ladder
reached. Two halves (src/receiverevidence.h):
Receivers the source types now RESOLVE: this/self/cls inside a class and
super/base through its bases, a typed parameter or local (TS/Python/Go
annotations, a Go method receiver, a JS `new Foo()` / Python `Foo()` / Go
`Foo{}` initializer), a constructed receiver (`new Foo().m()`), a class-name
receiver, a chain of stated field classes (`this.x = new Foo()`, Python
`self.x = Foo()`, Go struct and embedded fields), Python `f = obj.m`, an
import alias of the class, a Ruby mixin. Ingest records the receiver chain
(memberPath, memberCtor; Java/Kotlin/C#/Swift member calls are now member
calls) and four new binding kinds read by this rule alone.
A call the rules leave unanswered keeps the candidates the language's own
lookup proves (an implicit receiver's class and bases, a free function in
scope, the module a receiver alias names); with none proven it is NAME-ONLY:
every same-file and same-directory candidate (and a member call's included
file's) is listed, a lone global one too, and each edge carries a per-edge
bit (Graph::outNameOnly) that a proven site at the same edge clears. Rule 3's
include-file narrow no longer decides a member call. --callees, --callers,
--impact (a row reached by no all-proven path inherits it), --path,
--connect, the <calls> rows of --expand and --for, and MCP find_symbol /
find_referencing_symbols / impact / path render via="name" ("via":"name"),
each with a gated legend sentence saying what it does not mean.

…s, builtin names, self aliases - A qualified call (`A::m()`) keeps the ladder: a qualifier is the canonical tier's evidence axis, not a receiver's (cpptmplscopecheck: `Storage<D, S>::reset()` stays a split, never a lone pin). - A name-only MEMBER call never reaches a free function in Python, Go, C++, Rust, Ruby, Java, C# and Swift; with nothing left it is external= (builtinbindcheck (N)). - A builtin-named name-only call keeps a CLASS-owned target only with the builtin-method gate's evidence, so the wider name-only tier never hands it every class's method in reach (builtinbindcheck (T)). - `write = self.write; write( b )` resolves through the caller's class (falseedgecheck alias.py). - A bodyless interface or abstract signature is never a resolve target: the call dispatches through it, and the ladder's decline (declined_iface=) stays the honest answer (declinecheck (I)). - lpincheck: the locality pin and the honest split keep their arms on shapes the receiver evidence leaves to the tie-break (pinnedcone.kt, modlevel.m); pinned.kt and modlevel.kt now pin the implicit receiver's resolution, and the tier-1 residual is listed only hedged (via="name"). - CHANGELOG entry. …he contract only Ruby's method lookup (mixins, typed and class receivers) is separate work, so the receiver-evidence rule no longer reads include/extend/prepend directives. Ruby keeps the language-neutral proof (an implicit receiver's class and bases, a top-level def); the logger.rb mixin arm asserts only that stamp is resolved or hedged and that no unrelated render rides along proven. - A class-name receiver proves only in languages where `Cls.m()` is a class call (JS/TS, Python, Java, Kotlin, C#, Swift) and only when no local or parameter of the caller is spelled like it (clsrecvcheck C/K/L). - A module alias proves nothing when a local hides it (pymodulealiascheck). - A name-only tier keeps a member call's included-file candidates even where reachableByName set them aside (fnliteralcheck stopCaller), and ranks the extra hedged candidates at a tenth of a share: a guess is listed, not let to move PageRank. - The via="name" legend comment is charged inside the <calls> budget walk (estchargecheck #11). - Re-pins where FE-B's resolution is the intended answer, each with its reason in the gate: kotlincheck (the qualified Kotlin -> Java helper now reaches Java's), javamethodrefcheck (the lambda's Widget.makeFn invocation), fieldnarrowcheck / chainguardcheck (typed TS fields resolve), localitycheck (8) (the pick is disclosed via="name"), scipjoincheck (a call through a parameter is a split, never a pin); pincensusfix's pin shape is an override and its base. - cachefuzzcheck's record walker reads the two new ref strings; qschemetrip re-pinned; LIMITS.md regenerated (kWalkCap classified INDEXING); README cap count. - kParserVer 145 (train 25 holds 143/144; the train renumbers). languageLookupProved is the seam PR #373's Ruby lookup sets where it cuts the candidates to what self can reach: its survivors are proven by that lookup and never marked via="name". Nothing sets it on this branch; the #373 integration is two assignments at its cut sites. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…lees rows, the depth cut Fixes to the reference-as-value rows, from CodeRabbit's second pass on #372. - A parameter declares its name only inside the function that owns the list. A C prototype, a function-pointer typedef or parameter, a C++ member declaration, a Go func type or interface method and a TS function type, `declare function` or interface signature open no scope, and their parameter names used to land in the enclosing scope. At file scope they hid the function in the whole file: `signal( SIGINT, handler )` lost its row beside `typedef void (*fn_t)( int handler )`. - A value reference made inside the function itself (`timer_set( tick )` in tick) no longer keeps it off --dead-code, as the call graph drops a recursive self-call. --safe-delete's dead_code_candidate= reads the same rule; the row is still served. - --callees value rows are per binding site: two calls through one slot are one row, and sites= counts distinct binding sites, not calls. - The value walk's depth cap (kVrMaxDepth, 512) is disclosed. A file whose walk stopped there gets one depth-cut record (cached with its references), and every answer that reads value references for that language family carries value_refs_depth_capped=N and value_refs_depth_at=FILE:LINE (the first cut): the callers/callees roots, --impact, --safe-delete, --dead-code, --json and the MCP twins. A 300-link else-if chain is enough to reach it. - The remaining written key slots (a C `[expr]` designator, a numeric key, an identifier key) go through vrClean like every other slot. - The --callees sort ends on the definition id (a total order). Gate: test/recallshapecheck.sh arms RP, RS, RD, RZ and RK. LIMITS: kVrMaxDepth is INDEXING and its file now discloses value_refs_depth_capped. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The go.mod grammar lets a module path or a directory be an interpreted string
("example.com/x") or a raw one (`example.com/x`). The module census read a replace
line's sides unquoted, so `replace "example.com/legacy" => "./legacy"` (or a raw
string, single-line or grouped) put nothing in the tree and the call into it lost its
true edge. One reader, goModToken (resolve.h), now reads a path the way the grammar
spells it, for the module line, the census's replace lines and resolve.h's
cross-root replace aliases.
Gate: test/falseedgecheck.sh root goreplace/quoted/: a quoted and a raw-string local
replace keep their edges; near miss, a quoted module replaced by another quoted
module stays outside (a C external census row).

unresolved_site passes when the census has NO row for a call, so a call that extraction dropped would pass it too (CodeRabbit on #372): run_all's process(), siblings.py's helper() and find_type() were each proven only by an absence. Each root that names unresolved sites now pins its census `unresolved=` to exactly that many (py 2, c 1): a dropped call lowers the count and fails, and a new unresolved call in the fixture fails until an arm names it. The pin refuses a missing count and an empty site list rather than passing. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…dictionary figures Two extraction changes in the value-reference pass (a prototype's parameter declares nothing; a depth-cut record per cut file) and the capped key slots change index content: kParserVer 145, with quality.h's mirror. Not 144: 143's full-use file tag is 144 (parserVerFor adds 1), so a lean 144 would read those blobs as its own. The dead set moved (a function that only stores itself is dead again): kQSnapCacheScheme 18. qschemetrip re-pinned with a RE-PIN LOG entry; no assertion changed. The legend dictionary gained the two depth-cut definitions and a reworded value-ref-excluded one: dictv=beedfcd755c9457f entries=786, read from the binary. The showcase capture's --legend-dict figures are corrected in place to those values and docs/COMMANDS.md regenerated from it (docs_commands_build.py --bin build/ripwire). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With the calls in source order, a --callees join that matched a stored row by function alone (not by binding site) still came out right by order luck; called in reverse, it puts each through= on the other row, so RD4 now fails that mutation (as RF4 does). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…disclosure Two sentences the value-reference fixes made incomplete: --dead-code's help and ARCHITECTURE said any value use keeps a function off the list; a function that only stores itself is listed now. Both also name the depth-cut disclosure (value_refs_depth_capped= / value_refs_depth_at=). docs/COMMANDS.md regenerated from the binary (docs_commands_build.py --bin build/ripwire). The MCP tools/list descriptions are unchanged: tools/list is 46,732 B under a 46,750 B ceiling that moves only for a declared argument, never for prose; the two JSON keys are defined in the legend dictionary (ripwire://legend-dict). …uilds again
PMC_DIAG expanded to rw::emitRaw( stderr, "prof::pmc: " <printf format>, args... ),
but emitRaw is (stream, text) only since the std::print conversion, so the arming
trace could not be compiled in at all: the one build that explains why counters
did not arm failed first. It now expands to rw::emitTo with the prefix
concatenated onto a std::format string, and the 14 call sites move from
%s/%u/%d/%llu/%zd to {}.
pmccheck.sh gains a verbose-compile arm: the harness must build and run under
-DPROFILE_PMC_VERBOSE=1, with the trace on stderr and none on stdout. On the base
tree that arm fails to compile (no matching function for emitRaw); here it passes.
Build-flag only: the default build never expands the macro, so no output moves.

…ne, hop slots, code over docs (red) Two gates written before the code they measure, with one shared fixture (test/forcompletefix: C, JS, Python, TS roots, each indexed on its own). forspinecheck: a --for answer names who drives its top seeds — the nearest proven callers up to 2 hops (a scan routine's refresh check and main loop, a dispatcher loop) and the tables a seed is stored in (a struct-array of draw function pointers, a key table, an object-literal handler map) as via="value" rows, names and file:line only, in the answer's tail. Near misses: a C function-pointer field call, an untyped JS/Python parameter receiver never show as a plain caller row; a test caller and a module export are never rows. Every row must be backed by the same binary's --callers answer. forsigspancheck: <d> rows carry e= (the definition's last line) right after l=, absent when the extent is unknown (extent_suspect, doc rows); a hop slot never goes to a row whose only callee edge was bound by name; the defining code outranks markdown headings that repeat the question. Both are red on the pre-change binary for the arms the change adds; the near-miss arms that must stay true are green. Gate count 664 -> 666. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…et struct queries/go/tags.scm captured every type_spec as @definition.type, which defKind maps to SymKind::Struct (the typedef/alias/enum bucket). So `type TestName string` and `type F func(...)` read t="struct", a false claim on every surface that prints t=, and `type A = B` (a type_alias node) was not indexed at all. Three kinds are appended to SymKind: NamedType (t="type": a defined type over a non-struct form, or over another named type), FuncType (t="functype") and Alias (t="alias"). struct_type / interface_type keep t="struct" / t="iface" through their own patterns, which win the dedup on the same name byte. Generic and grouped specs follow the same rule. The new kinds behave as Struct did wherever a predicate reads the kind (model.h isStructOrNamedType): a conversion call keeps its edge, owner and type-like rules are unchanged; only the label moves. The map's --legend=full gains a clause for them only when the corpus has one, so every other corpus keeps its legend bytes. callhierarchy.h's cross_kind bound read ModuleScope+1 and now reads kSymKindCount. Only Go is split: other grammars' @definition.type captures still map to Struct, and the legend clause says so. kParserVer 143 -> 145 (143's full-use file tag is 144), quality.h's mirror and the qschemetrip pin move with it; a lane-local number, the train renumbers. Gate: test/gokindcheck.sh (red on base, 7 arms). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…r cli.h The help sentence spelled the _capped attribute, and docs/limits_build.py reads any *_capped spelling in a file as that file disclosing its caps, so cli.h's caps read as disclosed (limitstablecheck B). The sentence now says the cut is disclosed on the root and names value_refs_depth_at=. printffmtparitycheck re-pinned: only help_all moved (this sentence). docs/COMMANDS.md regenerated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The first quality-delta run against main gated 10 rows on this lane's code: - valueRefsCountAttrXml/KeyJson keep their one-argument contract; the call sites add valueRefsDepthAttrXml/KeyJson beside them (no API change, no twin-helper clone); - valueRefCalleeRows' join moves into vrJoinStoredRow and VrViaRows (complexity and verbosity back under the bars); - the depth cut's first-record order reuses vrBindLess (moved above ValueRefIndex) instead of a near-copy; - the C declarator-wrapper kinds are a table, not a kindIs chain. No output change: recallshapecheck and limitstablecheck pass unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A privileged profile run forced all counters (kpc_force_all_ctrs_set( 1 )), armed them and never gave them back, so the PMU stayed claimed after the process exited and the kpep db/config objects were never freed. Add prof::pmc::release(), called by the profile Reporter after the exit report has rendered: counting off, the force state restored to what kpc_force_all_ctrs_get() saw before arming, and active() false afterwards. The kpep config/db are freed once arming has finished or degraded (every return path of the init lambda). The Linux backend closes the calling thread's event group; the inert stub gets an empty release(). Unprivileged runs (the common case) never get as far as forcing, so nothing changes for them; the harness arm shows release() leaves reads zero and a second call harmless in both states. The privileged path itself needs root and was not exercised here. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- --for and --exemplar define via="name" in their own first-screen legend (ForLensHeaderParts::viaPresent over the row head, namesOnlyOutAny); the <bodies>/<hops> sections take viaLegendInHead and neither repeat nor charge it. - Rank: the hedged extra candidates of a name-only tier ride at edge weight zero, so a caller whose only out-edges are extras stays dangling as the classic ladder left it (a same-directory `empty` clique had risen ~6x). - The builtin-gate class evidence skips Read/Write refs, so the CLI's lean reference set and MCP's rich one bind the same edges. - impactpartitioncheck reads via="name" on an impact row like d=. - docdemote golden re-pinned (the --for answer's <calls> rows). - graphlegend.h clang-formatted. …root edge
The sibling of the quoted go.mod replace: resolve.h's cross-root replace aliases read
the same goModToken. Root pair goworkspace/{a,b}, indexed together; a's go.mod replaces
example.com/wb by "../b" (quoted). Red on the previous binary (no row), green now.

…candidate list) C2 of the self-profile: Narrower::rule3IncludeFile walks a name's WHOLE candidate list with a binary search per candidate over the caller's transitive include set, once per call reference. It is a pure function of (caller file, candidate list, minCands), so a file that calls one name N times paid that walk N times for one answer. On a 1.9k-file C repo the resolve loop made 1.70M such asks over ~150-candidate lists; 98% repeated an earlier (file, list) pair (686k candidates walked instead of 257M). Rule3FileMemo keeps the answers of the current caller file, keyed by the byName entry's address (the resolve loop never inserts into byName), and drops them when a reference of another file arrives; references come file by file, so memory is one file's names. A hit returns the ids the first computation wrote, in the same order. Lists a call builds for itself (reachableByName survivors, a FalseEdgeRules-narrowed list, minCands 1) have no stable address and still call rule3IncludeFile directly. Measured (profile build, 3 runs each, base and head interleaved, machine loaded, so wall is noisy; the scope is the signal): buildGraph "resolve loop" on that 1.9k-file C repo, warm CLI grep: 1.14 s median (0.92-1.18) -> 0.52 s (0.47-0.64); cold map 1.34 s (1.00-1.98) -> 0.52 s (0.52-0.95). Small repos: no change beyond the spread (a 400-file C repo 4.8 -> 6.5 ms, a 538-file TS repo 8.6 -> 7.2 ms, a 2.5k-file C++ tree 141 -> 177 ms). Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ingest C4 of the self-profile: the amp=/churn= block after the graph build ran the history walk (gitHeadSha, the window-boundary probe, the HEAD-epoch probe and, on a cold qchurn blob, one `git log --name-only` over 18 months) strictly after the ingest, although none of it reads anything the ingest produces. Only the final step, resolving paths to file ids, needs `ing`. quality::gitCoChangeAndChurnCached is split in two: gitRawCommitStreamCached (the git probes, blob read and cold walk; no ingest) and gitCoChangeAndChurnFromRaw (the HEAD-anchored churn cutoff and the resolve against `ing`); the Cached form is now their composition, same signature and result. main.cpp starts one std::async walk per root just before the ingest when one of the three verbs will mine history (not --help-task, which answers in between) and hands each future's stream to the resolve step. The thread only touches mutex-guarded memos and an atomically renamed blob; a run that stops before the block still joins its walks. Output is unchanged: the same raw stream is resolved against the same ingest. Measured (profile build, 3 runs each, previous commit vs this, interleaved, machine loaded): main-thread "computeQMetrics + change-amplification" scope, cold blob: a 538-file TS repo 422 ms -> 85 ms, ripwire's own 2.5k-file tree 3.87 s -> 0.80 s, a 400-file C repo 3.5 s -> 3.0 s (git walk longer than its ingest there); warm blob: 343 -> 173 ms (C repo), 350 -> 116 ms (own tree). Whole-process wall for --for, cold: TS repo 1.27 s -> 1.02 s, own tree 7.2 s -> 4.4 s; warm C repo 0.83 s -> 0.65 s. Peak RSS unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… floor beside the number (red on base) A zero printed as a total reads as "nothing uses this". Graded answers called eight such numbers false: a grep <enc> callers="0" on a method whose only call the resolver declined to bind, the same on a module variable another file reads, --safe-delete callers/uses="0" risk="none-found" on a C struct whose type mentions are never indexed, and the --for bundle's implementors= counting the rows it LISTED after narrowing (one of six). --safe-delete caller rows also carried the caller's definition line where an edit needs the call line. Arms (temp corpora, no git): - A/E: a C struct and a Python module variable floor callers= and uses=, risk="unmodelled", and the next= / floor_next= clue reaches the use. - F/G/H: a declined call, an unbound same-name call and a value use each floor a grep <enc> callers= count. - B/I/J (near-miss negatives): a static function nobody calls keeps callers="0" risk="none-found" dead_code_candidate="1"; a fully bound count and a markdown heading's zero stay plain. - C/D: safe-delete caller rows carry sites_l= call lines beside p=; a caller with three calls lists three, a single-definition callee called once still lists its line. - K/L: the bundle's implementors= is the lego verb's count, a narrowed list adds implementors_shown=/implementors_next=; an extends clause bound nowhere adds implementors_floor= on the bundle and the targeted verb. - M: MCP grep enclosing rows and the MCP for <lego> block say the same. - N: every new attribute is defined in its own answer, compact and full. - O: determinism and well-formed XML. Gate count regenerated by docs/gatecount_build.py (665). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…e-delete rows carry the call line COUNT-FLOOR. A row's count stays a plain total only when the index holds no evidence of a miss for that definition. Otherwise it carries <count>_floor="1" beside the number and the call that lists the rest (src/countfloor.h, one function for the CLI and the MCP twin): - evidence: a declined call that named it; a call or macro site spelled like it that bound to no definition of that name; a use as a value; or a kind used by reading or naming it (variable, class, struct, interface, field). - grep <enc>: callers_floor="1" floor_next=...; MCP grep enclosing rows carry callers_floor/floor_next from the same rows. - --safe-delete: callers_floor="1"; uses_floor="1" when the definition's reads and type mentions are not indexed in this run; risk="unmodelled" (new value) when nothing was found for such a kind; next= the uses verb, or the literal grep where the language's reads are never indexed (C, and a .h definition). - --for <lego>: implementors= is the lego verb's own count, never the rows listed; a shorter list adds implementors_shown= and implementors_next= (--lego=FILE:NAME). implementors_floor= / floor_next= when an extends clause spelled like the interface bound nowhere (bundle and --lego, CLI and MCP). - The MCP for twin narrows <lego> with the root prefix the CLI passes; it compared root-relative rows against absolute paths and served no <lego>. CALLSITE-LINE. --safe-delete caller rows carry sites_l=, the call-site lines spelled like the symbol (edit-check's own editCheckCallSites pass), beside p=, which stays the caller's definition line. Every new attribute is defined present-only in the answer carrying it (compact table rows, the full safe-delete and grep prose, a post-render --for splice like the section-stub clause). Answers without one are byte-identical. --help, docs/COMMANDS.md (regenerated), the change-check skill and CHANGELOG name risk=unmodelled and the new attributes. …ON twins
The orient map wrote every callee row plain, so a name-only edge read as a
resolved one there while every other surface marked it. serialize() and
serializeJson() now take Graph::outNameOnly: a <c> row whose edge is name-only
carries via="name" ("via":"name" in --json), and the shared via legend comment
rides exactly when a kept row may print one (namesOnlyOutAny over the kept
rows). MCP analyze and rank_by pass the same bit; --around's map too.
--for's full-dialect header clause is a shorter spelling of the same three
facts (~190 B), because that header is un-charged by its ladder.
Gate: receiverevidencecheck gains map arms (respondWith's <c n="send"> marked,
direct's constructed send plain, respond's ctx.onerror never proven, the
legend; a scope-proven bare call's map as the legend near miss) and the MCP
analyze twin. Red on the previous binary: the analyze arms FAIL.

--whereis=SYM now lists every kind="def" row and counts the kind="ref" rows in one trailing <refs count=N next="--whereis=SYM --whereis-listing=refs"/> element; the next= lists exactly those rows. --whereis-listing=defs|refs|all picks the rows (MCP: listing); all is the whole hit list. With no ref row, or no def row (the mentions are then the answer), every hit is listed and the root carries no listing=. shown=/capped=/limit/offset and <more hits=> window the listed rows; hits= still counts every row; complete= reads the listing. Lossless: a row on HEAD's commit omits tip= and date= (tip is at= without +dirty, date is the new root head_date=). ref= stays on every row. Both legends (full and compact) define the new vocabulary. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The --for lens (CLI and MCP) prints cx=, ccx= and in= on a <d> row only when non-zero, and every --for legend (compact, full, the MCP for dialect) says an absent one is 0. Only where in= is measured on every row (a fan-in vector is supplied); without one nothing is elided, since an absent in= there still means "not measured". The trim ladder still charges the omitted bytes, so the rows kept are exactly the rows kept before: a format change, not a different selection. --pack-task, --from-trace and the non-lens serving are unchanged. A map <s> row whose every callee would be a bare <c n=> (no per-edge attribute such as prov=, no comma in a name) now says them once as calls="a,b,c" on the row itself, the same names in the same order. One attributed edge keeps the <c> rows for the whole symbol, so no per-callee attribute is ever dropped to join. Both legends define it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…re> only off a run that produced its root Both §B8.2 past-the-end arms (the --whereis-listing=all page and its default-listing twin) passed when the binary printed nothing: a crash has no <more> either. Each arm now FAILs by name when the <whereis> root is missing, and reads the absence only after it. Shown with a wrapper that exits 139 on --offset=: both arms PASS before, FAIL after; the real binary is green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…he name population The contract comment and the PathGapKind table comment still said four after f1e5c2e added name. Comment-only; no output changes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…risk= value, unmodelled count-floor added risk="unmodelled" (help, legend table, CHANGELOG and the change-check skill name it); the comment above runSafeDelete still listed three values. Comment-only, same line count; no output changes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… a name gap (red arm) helper's B().process() lists only other/B.process; the unlisted namesake pkg/x/A.process is in the searched cone through run, so nothing behind that call went unsearched. The answer must keep the plain no-path reading. RED on 7608d1f (gaps="name:1", row helper). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
countUnlistedNamesakes counted a name gap whenever the tree held more same-language, same-kind definitions of a by-name callee than the caller had edges to — also when the unlisted namesake was inside the searched cone (another cone symbol reaches it). That namesake WAS searched, so the answer said "the search is incomplete" and the legend's "that namesake was never searched" was false. A name gap now needs a namesake outside the cone; every edge target of a cone symbol is in the cone, so that also means the call has no edge to it. Legend text unchanged (now true as written); CHANGELOG path-gap entry says "never reached". Arm (N7) GREEN; P7, N3, N6 and both MCP postures unchanged. Answer-changing: --path / path_between reachable=0 answers whose name gaps all had namesakes inside the cone. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…under every CI event Two defects in the gate, found when the train-26b pull_request run went red while the workflow_dispatch run at the same head was green. 1. A merge judged a tombstone it INHERITED as one it newly declared. A lane that added a loop entry and retired it inside its own life leaves `# retired: NAME`; every later merge brings that line in from the parent carrying it. Against the other parent (no tombstone, NAME never in its loop) the per-parent rule saw "tombstone matching no vanish". Now a tombstone another parent already carries is not judged stale against a parent whose loop never had NAME, provided NAME is absent from the child's loop too. A tombstone no parent carried (arm G) and a merge keeping NAME in its loop under an inherited tombstone (arm H) stay red; the vanish side is unchanged; ordinary commits are judged exactly as before. 2. The window stopped at the first upstream candidate whose merge-base was REF itself. A CI checkout of a branch tracks its own pushed copy, so the dispatch run fell back to the tip's first parent and judged zero loop-touching commits, while the pull_request run (detached, no upstream) fell through to origin/main and judged the whole branch. A candidate that already contains REF is now skipped instead of final (arm I); on main every candidate contains REF, so the first-parent fallback is unchanged there. Arms F, F2, G, H, I added; the header's arm list now matches the code. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Train PR #383 carried 388 files, 211 of them under test/*fix/ (inputs that gates parse), and CodeRabbit skipped the whole review at its 300-file limit. Fixture trees join the existing exclusions of vendored, captured and pinned files; code, gates and docs are still reviewed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

std::array<const char*, rw::kSymKindCount>accepts fewer initializers than its size and fills the missing elements withnullptr. If someone appends a
SymKindand does not add a word, lspKindWordreturnsnullptr. The hover text builder then dereferences that pointer. The removed switch had-Werror=switchand a"symbol"fallback, so it never had this failure. The table is correct today, so this is a guard and not a current defect. 117-118: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueSection end detection can miss a heading at the very start of a line-1 offset.
text.find("\n### ", begin + 1)finds the next level-3 heading. If the next heading is####or deeper, it is correctly ignored. If the registration section is followed by a##heading, the section runs on into the next##block. A**Window start:**line there would be read as window 2. Stop at the next heading of level 2 or 3.Proposed fix

373-378: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winThe table-size guarantee in the comment is false. Add a compile-time check.
std::array<const char*, rw::kSymKindCount> kLspKindWords = { ... }still compiles when the brace list is shorter thankSymKindCount. Aggregate initialization sets the missing elements tonullptr. So if someone appends aSymKindand forgets its word, the build passes.lspKindWordthen returnsnullptrfor that kind, and the hover code formats thatnullptras text. The table has 14 entries today, so it is correct now. Make the build enforce the comment:

CodeRabbit (Major): kViaNameImpactClause said "An --impact row", and
viaNameLegend( present, impact = true ) is spliced inside the --impact
legend's XML comment on the CLI and on MCP. A --legend=full answer with a
shown via="name" row was therefore not well-formed XML ("Comment must not
contain '--'"); the compact default never carries the clause.
The clause now says "An impact row". test/xmlwellformed.sh gains a premise
(the answer really carries a via="name" row and the clause) and three
xmllint arms: CLI, CLI --format=columnar, and the MCP impact twin, each
under legend=full on test/receiverevidencefix/js lib/reply.js:send.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…65, mcp.h:2319)
CodeRabbit (Minor): `listing` was read with strArg inside the whereis arm,
after the shared shapeRefusal gate had already run. A non-string value
(listing:5, listing:["all"]) decoded to "", its shape refusal was written
to an accumulator nothing read any more, and whereisListingFromArg then
refused with "got ''" - the caller was told it sent an empty value.
`listing` is now read beside `kind` and the other string arguments, so a
wrong-shaped value refuses through the shared gate and echoes what was
sent; the arm passes the decoded string. A verb that does not declare
`listing` still refuses it as an unknown field first (unchanged order).
test/crossrefcheck.sh LEAN (L10b): listing 5 / ["all"] / {"v":1} / true
refuse -32602 echoing the value; "bogus" still echoes itself.

…ble (CR 5468003465, verbs_lint.h:775) CodeRabbit (Minor): the flag accepted up to kIntFlagMax (1e9), but the budget is multiplied by 20 for the atoms/cache pack engine budget (lintPackQueryBudget) and by 10 more for a floored answer's findings_next=. Where size_t is 32 bits, --lint-max-per-rule=300000000 wrapped. The flag's ceiling is now kLintMaxPerRuleMost = min(kIntFlagMax, SIZE_MAX / 200): refused above it, never saturated. It equals kIntFlagMax on every 64-bit target, so no accepted value moves. Follow-through on the same continuation: lintNextMaxPerRule saturated at INT_MAX, above the flag's own ceiling, so a run floored at a budget over 1e8 named a --lint-max-per-rule= value the parser refuses (e.g. 1000000010). It now saturates at the ceiling. static_asserts in lintPackQueryBudget state both properties; an EXPECTS states the budget is within the ceiling. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…itpick, lsp.h:370) CodeRabbit (nitpick): the comment said an appended SymKind without a word "does not compile", which is false. std::array value-initializes the elements a short initializer list leaves out, so the missing word would be nullptr and the hover builder would dereference it. A static_assert now rejects any nullptr entry; the table and its enum-order mapping are unchanged, and the comment says what the guard actually is. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… 5468003465, verbs_lint.h:775) The ceiling change is a no-op where size_t is 64 bits; the twin holds the accepted domain there (1e9 answers, 1e9+1 refuses) and skips by name when getconf LONG_BIT is not 64. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

25-25: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueUpdate the
--quality-deltarow to match the new kind count. This row still says "Ten measured code-quality failure modes". The section at Line 6192 now documents twelve kinds, and it separates ten measured modes from
placeholderanddefect-shape. The two statements are consistent only if the reader knows that split. Rephrase this row so it does not read as a stale count.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Thanks for the review. All four findings were valid, and they are fixed in this PR:

…lled base/super (CR 5469474915, receiverevidence.h:124) isSuperRoot accepted the root "base" and "super" in every language, so a local named `base` (Python/JS/TS/Go/Java/Kotlin/Swift/C++/Ruby) or `super` (Go, C#) resolved through the caller's bases only and drew a PROVEN edge to a base class's same-named method, ignoring the local's own type. It now takes the Reference and accepts each spelling only where the grammar makes it the keyword: C# `base`; `super` in Java, Kotlin, Swift, JS and TS; Python's super() call (RecvKind::SuperObj). All three call sites pass the reference (ReceiverEvidence::rootClass, narrow's class-side test, and graph.h ladderProves). Arms: receiverevidencecheck (R) over test/receiverevidencefix/superroot/<lang>, red on 93aeab1, with the keyword twins as guards. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Thanks for the two follow-up reviews. Disposition of everything after the last commit already listed above:

…eRabbit on redhat-et#383, countfloorcheck.sh:213) (R) --safe-delete=walk_tree and (N) --safe-delete=helper_dead --legend=compact passed on an empty answer: a missing root element matched neither floor pattern. Each now checks the answer is there (and, for (R), that callers= is 0) before reading the absence of a floor off it, like (R)'s other arms. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… sites once (CodeRabbit on redhat-et#383, quality.h:7490) healDefectSites skipped a `to` anchor the baseline already held, but not one an earlier alias in the same loop had just filled: a scheme alias and a rename alias that both map to the same current anchor each copied their sites under it. The loop now records the anchors it filled (first alias in `from` order wins) and skips an alias with no recorded sites, so an anchor is claimed only by sites. Narrow by construction (needs both alias kinds on one anchor); no gate reaches it, disclosed in the train report. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ace pastes as one selector (CodeRabbit on redhat-et#383, pathgaps.h:342) The `--expand=` continuation was concatenated by hand; a gap row under a directory with a space (or any character a shell splits or expands) pasted as two argv words. The comma-joined file:name list now goes through nextFlag, which single-quotes it only when a shell would act on it, so the plain case is byte-identical. test/pathgapcheck.sh (P8): the P7 fixture under `pkg x/` answers gaps="name:1" with next="--expand='pkg x/c.py:run'", and the quoted value, split like a shell would, serves run's body. A comma inside a name or path stays a known floor (the selector grammar's). Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…nder (CodeRabbit on redhat-et#383, verbs_for.h:3843) An explicit --token-budget renders the lens in up to three payment modes (unpaid, paid, unpaid again) over one ranking; each render re-read the git stamp (rev-parse + status --porcelain, two subprocesses) before deciding whether to hand back. The stamp now rides with the ranking: runForLens reads it once and passes it to every render. Answer bytes are unchanged; the stderr redaction report was already printed once (only the served render reaches it). Arm: test/forrankordercheck.sh (10c), in the next commit. …ning it (CodeRabbit on redhat-et#383, main.cpp:3721) --for / --metrics / --exemplar start the 18-month git walk beside the ingest; a memory-guard refusal printed its line and then joined that walk's std::async future, so the exit code waited for the end of `git log`. The four refusal paths now set a process-wide abandon flag first: every git-pipe reader (gitmine.h gitCommandLines) stops at its next line and pcloses, git gets SIGPIPE on its next write, and the join ends there. A reader that stopped early says so, and the commit stream cache never writes an abandoned prefix. test/memguardcheck.sh (B21): with a PATH git shim whose `log` streams for 6 s, the --for refusal over a crawl stop returns within 3 s (the shim records that it served the walk; a fresh TMPDIR keeps a cached stream from standing in). The --help-task half of the finding does not apply: startHistoryWalks starts nothing under it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…train 26c, cli-perf x redhat-et#383) cli-perf's arm put 18 shell and 18 Python `ok` definitions in one directory. Since redhat-et#383 a bare module-scope call whose same-named definitions sit in the same directory is hedged over that directory (the name-only tier, each row via="name"), so every Python def answered 18 hedged callers and the arm read the resolver's hedge, not the memo (red with the pre-merge binary on this tree too). A directory per file keeps the arm's claim exactly: the caller's own file, in its own language, 36 definitions past the memo's 16-candidate floor. Lanes in this train
via="name": its rows stay, as name-only candidates, never presented as resolved. Same-named by-name rows on the map merge (x=N).--pathno longer says "no directed call path" across declined, ambiguous or unresolved edges. The searched frontier's gaps are disclosed (gaps=), including anamepopulation.implementors=,callers=0,uses=0andrisk=none-foundprint as floors with a clue unless provably complete.--safe-deletecaller rows carry the call-site line.--whereisserves the page with more definitions. The MCP legend is sent once per session.next=), including longimporters_next=, the lint cap and the<sigs>floor. A skill that passed an ignored flag is fixed.--quality-deltadefect-shape (12th kind)--forrows carry how far to read (e=), and code ranks above docs where the question is about code.Pre-review pass (5 commits on top of the merged train):
--pathno longer counts avia="name"namesake that the search did reach as anamegap (answer-changing forreachable="0"answers only, red-first arm N7). Two crossref arms no longer pass when the binary crashes. Two comments are corrected.Pins:
kParserVer156 (rich tag 157),kCacheVersion29,kQSnapCacheScheme19.test/qschemetrip.hashis re-derived once, with a RE-PIN LOG entry. Gate count 678. Generated docs (LIMITS, TUNING, COMMANDS, showcase) are regenerated once on the merged tree.Checked: the full CI (
workflow_dispatch, all legs plus ASan, RHEL, Windows and cross-platform) is green on this exact head: 35 jobs passed, 2 skipped. Every lane was reviewed and signed before merging into the train. Each behaviour change has a red-first gate. Byte identity outside each lane's scope was sampled for every lane.--quality-deltagates nothing.Refs #381.
