There is a second report of attenuation without complete silence, so this needs a reproducible mute test. Could you say which mute action you use (FUNC+track, MIXER mute, trig mute or another mode), whether the remaining sound is at MAIN, CUE or a pre-LEVEL USB track, and whether it is an already sounding voice/tail or new notes? Pre-LEVEL USB taps intentionally precede track mute. If other mute/routing modules are installed, compare FM Synth alone in a disposable project, with FX NONE, finite HOLD/REL, then add companions. Please give the exact flashed build and control settings privately through Modwerk. This remains open; routing and tail behavior have not yet been ruled out.
I have tested both [func] + Track buttons and in mute mode. I have not installed any other routing mods, you can find my exact build here its called octacrack, thank you for your time and work! much appreciated
Hi both! Mute Modes author here. If your build includes Mute Modes, what you describe (the track gets quieter but doesn't fully mute) matches its trig-mute modes working as designed together with how FM Synth plays notes, rather than a fault in either module.
DT-T (and the other trig-mute styles) stops new trigs, and the note that's already playing finishes on its own amp envelope (nothing cuts it). A sample usually ends on its own. FM Synth is an oscillator, so it never runs out. With AMP HOLD at 127 (infinite), nothing ever ends the last note while the track is muted, so it keeps sounding. A looped sample with HOLD at 127 does exactly the same thing in DT-T. The "attenuated" sound is DEC fading the FM modulation, because no new trig restarts it. That leaves a plainer, quieter-sounding carrier tone.
Could you try this and tell me what you hear?
Check PERSONALIZE > MUTE MODE and tell me which mode it was set to (OT, OTFX, OTFX-T or DT-T).
On the FM Synth track, set AMP HOLD to something finite (e.g. 40) and REL fairly short.
Play, then mute the track.
If the note dies away after HOLD + REL, everything is working as intended. If MUTE MODE is OT (the stock mute) and the FM Synth track still doesn't go fully silent, please say so. That would point to the synth side rather than Mute Modes.
If you want an immediate cut that ignores HOLD, use OTFX-T (cuts the note, lets delay/reverb tails ring, suppresses new trigs) or OTFX (cuts the dry sound, tails ring, the pattern keeps running underneath).
A correction to my earlier reply: the "infinite HOLD" explanation was wrong.
I've now reproduced the problem in the emulator: with FM Synth on a track, Mute Modes' DT-T and OTFX-T modes let every new trig through as a fresh note, even with a short HOLD/REL. A normal sample track mutes correctly in the same test. The cause is how the two modules meet: Mute Modes blocks the trig where the Octatrack normally starts a voice, but FM Synth starts its notes a moment earlier, from the trig itself, so the block never reaches it.
I've opened a new issue with Jannik and Tim to hopefully get this fixed: #777.
Until then, if your build has Mute Modes, OTFX or OT mute FM Synth tracks correctly. If MUTE MODE was already OT (or your build has no Mute Modes) and the track still doesn't go fully silent, please say so here. That would be a separate problem, and it didn't show up in my test.
Closing as a duplicate of #777, where the Mute Modes author reproduced this. In Mute Modes' DT-T and OTFX-T modes, FM Synth starts its note from the trig before Mute Modes gets to block it, so muted trigs still play. The fix needs a change on the FM Synth side, and #777 follows it. Until then, set MUTE MODE to OT or OTFX on FM Synth tracks; both mute it fully. If your build has no Mute Modes, or MUTE MODE was OT, and the FM Synth track still doesn't go silent, reply here and we'll reopen it, because that would be a different problem.
