Could you give the exact trig-mute gesture/mode, ALG/INDX/FB settings, AMP HOLD/REL, and which output you monitor? Does a muted step start a new carrier sound, or does a voice from an earlier trig keep sustaining? Trig mute normally suppresses a new trigger rather than acting as an immediate audio cut, so this distinction matters. Please compare a disposable FM-only project, FX NONE and finite HOLD/REL with the same pattern after unmuting, then give the actual flashed build identity privately through Modwerk. The report stays open until we can distinguish expected sustain/routing from a synth mute defect.
Hi! Mute Modes author here. This answers your earlier Mute Modes report (#418) as well. What you describe, "only Operator 2 mutes" in a trig mute mode, matches DT-T working as designed together with how FM Synth plays notes, rather than a fault in either module.
DT-T is a trig mute: it stops new trigs, and the note that's already playing finishes on its own amp envelope (nothing cuts it). A sample usually ends on its own. FM Synth is an oscillator, so it never runs out. With AMP HOLD at 127 (infinite), nothing ever ends the last note while the track is muted, so it keeps sounding. A looped sample with HOLD at 127 does exactly the same thing in DT-T. The "Operator 2" part is DEC fading the FM modulation, because no new trig restarts it. That leaves the plain carrier tone playing.
Could you try this and tell me what you hear?
On the FM Synth track, set AMP HOLD to something finite (e.g. 40) and REL fairly short.
MUTE MODE = DT-T, play, then mute the track.
If the note dies away after HOLD + REL, everything is working as intended. If it still keeps playing, please reply and I'll dig in further.
If you want an immediate cut that ignores HOLD, use OTFX-T (cuts the note, lets delay/reverb tails ring, suppresses new trigs) or OTFX (cuts the dry sound, tails ring, the pattern keeps running underneath).
A correction to my earlier reply (this also covers #418): your report was right, and the "infinite HOLD" explanation was wrong.
I've now reproduced it in the emulator: with FM Synth on a track, DT-T and OTFX-T let every new trig through as a fresh note, even with a short HOLD/REL. A normal sample track mutes correctly in the same test. The cause is how the two modules meet: Mute Modes blocks the trig where the Octatrack normally starts a voice, but FM Synth starts its notes a moment earlier, from the trig itself, so the block never reaches it.
I've opened a new issue with Jannik and Tim to hopefully get this fixed: #777.
Until then, OTFX (dry cut, delay/reverb tails ring) or OT (stock cut) both mute FM Synth tracks correctly.
Closing as a duplicate of #777, where the Mute Modes author reproduced this. In Mute Modes' DT-T and OTFX-T modes, FM Synth starts its note from the trig before Mute Modes gets to block it, so muted trigs still play. The fix needs a change on the FM Synth side, and #777 follows it. Until then, set MUTE MODE to OT or OTFX on FM Synth tracks; both mute it fully.
