Madura E-Encyclopedia (Next.js version)

An early rewrite of the Madura Ethnoscience E-Encyclopedia using Next.js, Prisma, and a Supabase (PostgreSQL) database. The original site is built with Laravel.

This is a team project and is still in the setup stage: the database schema is ready, but the pages are still the default Next.js starter.

What's done so far

  • Next.js app with TypeScript and Tailwind CSS
  • Prisma connected to a PostgreSQL database on Supabase
  • Database models copied from the Laravel version:
Model What it holds
halaman_modul Learning module pages
produk Madurese cultural products
gambar, video Product photos and videos
glossarium Glossary terms
nilai_budaya, produk_nilai_budaya Cultural values and which products they belong to

Getting started

You need Node.js 18+ and a PostgreSQL database (a free Supabase project works).

  1. Install dependencies:

    npm install
  2. Create a .env file with your database URL:

    DATABASE_URL="postgresql://USER:PASSWORD@HOST:5432/postgres"

Run node test-env.js to check that the variable is loaded.

  3. Generate the Prisma client and start the app:

    npx prisma generate
    npm run dev

    Open http://localhost:3000.

Next steps

  • Build the module pages, product pages, glossary, and gallery
  • Import the content from the Laravel version's SQL files
