Brave Browser Linux Maintenance Scripts

A small collection of auditable shell scripts for installing Brave on Debian-based Linux, repairing an architecture entry, and explicitly removing Google Chrome.

Project status: maintenance scripts; review every command against your distribution before running with elevated privileges.

What this repository contains

  • install.sh adds the Brave signing key and APT repository, then installs the browser.
  • fix-bit.sh rewrites the Brave source entry for amd64 systems.
  • google-sucks.sh removes Chrome, its repository, and the invoking user's Chrome configuration.

Quick start

chmod +x install.sh fix-bit.sh google-sucks.sh
sudo ./install.sh

Engineering notes

  • The installer targets APT-based distributions and is not a universal Linux installer.
  • The removal script is intentionally destructive and cannot restore deleted browser profiles.
  • Back up browser data and confirm SUDO_USER resolves to the intended account.

Repository map

Path Purpose
install.sh Brave repository and package installation.
fix-bit.sh Architecture-specific APT source repair.
google-sucks.sh Explicit Chrome package and profile removal.
LICENSE License terms.

Safety and limitations

Read the script before using sudo. Run only the script you intend; do not pipe remote content into a shell. The Chrome removal script permanently deletes local configuration and cache.
