Stop sending files to yourself on WhatsApp just to move them from one room to another. Tò turns any Windows PC into a small shared folder that everyone at home can reach — from another PC, or from a phone browser by scanning a QR code. Nothing leaves your house and nothing is installed on the phone.
The window is the same on every computer: there is no "server version" and no "client version". You can share your files and browse someone else's at the same time.
- Drag anything in. Files, ten files, a whole folder — Tò works out what it is. Folders travel as folders, not as zip archives.
- Two QR codes. One for your own files, one for the PC you are connected to, so you can open their files on your phone without walking over to their computer.
- No size limit. Tens of gigabytes go through, with a progress bar showing speed, time left and a working Cancel button.
- Files clean themselves up after half an hour (configurable, up to "forever"), so the shared folder never turns into a warehouse. Only inside Tò's own folder — never anything you moved elsewhere.
- Nothing leaves the house. No telemetry, no update checks, no accounts. The only connections Tò makes are to the address you type.
- Eight languages — English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish. It follows Windows on first run and can be changed in Settings; the web page picks the language of the phone that opens it, not the one of the PC holding the files.
- Windows 10 and 11. No dependencies: the executable already contains the .NET runtime.
From the Releases page — pick one:
| File | Who it is for |
|---|---|
To-<version>-Setup-x64.exe |
Almost everyone. Windows 11, or 64-bit Windows 10. Installs per-user, no administrator prompt. |
To-<version>-portable-x64.zip |
Same thing without installing: unzip and run Tò.exe. Writes nothing to the registry. |
To-<version>-Setup-x86.exe |
Only for old 32-bit Windows 10 machines. (Windows 11 does not exist in 32-bit.) |
To-<version>-portable-x86.zip |
The 32-bit build, portable. |
Not sure whether your Windows is 32 or 64-bit? Settings → System → About → System type. If in doubt, take the x64 one: it is right for anything sold in the last fifteen years.
SHA256SUMS.txt in the same release lets you check the download arrived intact.
Tò is not code-signed: a code signing certificate costs a few hundred euros a year, which an unpaid side project does not have. Windows SmartScreen therefore warns about an unknown publisher the first time you run it. The warning means "we have never seen this file before", not "this file is malicious".
You do not have to take my word for it. Every release is built by GitHub Actions from the public source in this repository, and each binary carries a build provenance attestation you can verify yourself:
gh attestation verify To-1.0.0-Setup-x64.exe --repo seremanuels-create/to-file-sharingNo, and it is tested rather than promised. Whoever connects sees only the shared folder:
attempts to walk out of it — .., encoded slashes, absolute paths, UNC paths, Windows
alternate data streams — are all rejected, for downloading, uploading and deleting alike.
Shortcuts (junctions/symlinks) placed inside the shared folder are never followed, so they
cannot become a back door to the rest of the disk. In the other direction, a malicious server
cannot make your copy of Tò write outside Downloads\To.
Two things worth knowing, because they are deliberate choices rather than oversights:
- There is no password and no encryption. Anyone already on your network who knows the address can read, add and delete files in the shared folder, and someone sniffing the Wi-Fi would see the files go by in the clear. That is fine at home; it is not fine on a network that is not yours.
- The server listens on every network the PC is attached to, but only on your local network: it is not reachable from the Internet unless you deliberately forward the port on your router. Tò never asks the router to open anything (no UPnP).
.\build.ps1Produces everything listed above in dist\. Needs the .NET 9 SDK
and, for the installers, Inno Setup 6.
.\build.ps1 -SoloPortable skips the installers, .\build.ps1 -Solo64 skips the 32-bit build.
