The smooth, free video player for Mac, with built-in subtitle search.
Dofi Player is a native macOS video player built in Swift on the mpv engine. It plays almost any video format, finds subtitles online in one click, and is designed for Apple silicon and the new Liquid Glass look of macOS.
- Plays everything: MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, WMV and more, including 4K and HEVC (H.265), with hardware decoding on Apple silicon.
- Subtitles found for you: press ⌘F and Dofi searches OpenSubtitles and Podnapisi for the movie or TV episode you're watching, even from messy file names with typos.
- Subtitles your way: font, size, colour, outline and background, two subtitle tracks at once, and a quick delay control. SRT, ASS and VTT supported.
- YouTube and web links: paste a link with ⌘U, take screenshots and save short clips.
- Picture in Picture for watching while you work.
- Multiple displays: show the video on every screen, black out the others, or move playback to another display.
- Ten themes, from classic dark to clear Liquid Glass.
- Resume, playlists and multiple windows.
- One-click updates built into the app.
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer)
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later
- Download the latest
.dmgfrom Releases and open it. - Drag Dofi Player into Applications.
- Open it. macOS says it could not verify the app: click Done (not Move to Trash).
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
You only do this once. Dofi isn't notarized because it's made by an independent developer without Apple's paid developer program. Updates install with one click afterwards.
No ads, no account, no tracking. Dofi only goes online to check for updates, search subtitles you ask for, and play links you paste.
