Intan demo board
Most of the development of the Open Ephys GUI has been done with the RHA2000-EVAL Board, a simple FGPA-based interface to the the RHA2000 amplifier chips from Intan Technologies.
If you're planning on doing serious development with the GUI, we recommend buying one of these. It's around $1000 for 16 channels, which is a steal compared to what most companies would charge for a 16-channel system with the same functionality. The board comes with its own free control software, which we've used to run some simple tests. Its noise levels are at least as low as all of the commercial systems we've compared it to. We've yet to do rigorous in vivo testing, but we have every reason to believe that it will perform well. If so, this board can be used to provide neural input to the GUI prior to the release of the Custom acquisition board.
The RHA2000-EVAL board has a fixed sample rate of 25 kHz per channel and uses an Omnetics 18-channel male connector (same as the Neuralynx HS-16 and the Plexon 16-channel VLSI headstages).
Code for communicating with the board can be found in the IntanThread.
If you're having problems getting permission to access the board via USB, check out the suggestions on the libFTDI wiki page.
