Login with browser not doing anything

The problem

I cant login properly, i get no errors or popups seemingly

Steps to reproduce the behavior

1. Go to Sign in with github.com
2. continue with browser
3. allow Oauth or continue with account
4. when redirecting back to github desktop, the process seems to finish but it doesnt log me in

downloaded the amd64 release because it was .deb and i didn't know if the architecture would be correct, it let me install it but i don't have amd, maybe thats the issue and i should get another release. But AppImage didnt open.

same on nobara linux with appimage, flatpak didnt open at all for me, going to try rpm later

I used to have this issue but for the first time I was able to get this to work on Ubuntu 25.10 as of today. Not sure what changed but maybe there's a newer version that fixed it.

there are some settings in firefox, which are saying, what to do with special files like pdf and so on, there will also appear an entry for x-github-desktop-dev-auth. play around with this setting, like "always ask" and point to ther direct file /bin/github-desktop, this worked for me.
