🐞 Issue: GitHub Desktop repeatedly loses local repository paths after system restart #1285

Description

@enmfarooq85

The problem

Hy!

On Linux Mint, GitHub Desktop frequently fails to detect previously opened local repositories after a system shutdown or restart. Repositories that were working fine earlier show an error like “Can’t find repository on your system”, even though the folders still exist and have not been moved or deleted.

This forces me to manually locate and re-add the same repository folders again and again, which disrupts workflow.

Kind Regards
Muhammad Farooq

    I investigated the issue further and found that it was not a GitHub Desktop bug.

    The actual problem was that my separate Coding partition was not mounted automatically at startup. When GitHub Desktop launched, the repository paths did not exist yet, so it could not detect my repositories. As soon as I opened the partition in the file manager, it was mounted and GitHub Desktop immediately recognized all of the repository paths.

    After configuring the partition to mount automatically at startup, GitHub Desktop was able to detect the repositories normally.

    So the root cause was my Linux mount configuration rather than GitHub Desktop itself.

    I'm closing this issue.
