Summary

Part of #280 — stacked on #282 (shared interaction primitives).

  • Login: the pressed sign-in path is the one that spins (email vs google tracked separately), both submit buttons get width-stable loadingText, the forgot-password link shows a send-in-progress state, and the mount placeholder uses the shared Skeleton
  • FAQ: accordion triggers get hover/press/focus-visible treatment plus an open state; the chevron rotates (duration-ui) instead of swapping icons; shared Spinner replaces the hand-rolled loader
  • Forms: public registration and lost-pet sighting forms use shared loading/loadingText instead of label swaps
  • Contact: social icon links get press + focus-visible rings; contact links get colour transitions
  • Cards: interactive variant on the genuinely clickable homepage animal cards; hover shadows removed from informational cards (contact, services, vet services, team, adoptions) so static surfaces stop advertising clickability
  • Consent button: cursor-pointer (Tailwind v4 preflight leaves <button> on the default cursor)

Test plan

  • npm run type-check — clean
  • npm run lint — 0 errors (5 pre-existing img warnings)
  • tests/ui-interactions.test.tsx + public-surface tests — 34 passed
  • npm run build — clean
  • CI

Summary by Sourcery

Improve public-site interaction feedback, accessibility, and visual affordances across authentication, forms, FAQ, contact, and card surfaces.

Bug Fixes:

  • Prevent duplicate same-tick authentication submissions and keep password-reset progress visible until completion.

Enhancements:

  • Polish public-site interaction states with consistent loading feedback, accessible FAQ accordion behavior, and improved hover, press, focus, and transition treatment.
  • Distinguish genuinely interactive animal cards from informational cards by enabling interactive styling only where appropriate.
  • Standardize loading placeholders and indicators through the shared Skeleton and Spinner components.

Chores:

  • Make the consent settings control visibly clickable.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Sign-In
    • Sign-in and registration buttons now show which method is processing, and repeated authentication attempts are prevented while one is underway. Password-reset requests display their own loading state.
  • Forms
    • Animal registration and lost-pet report buttons show clear loading feedback while submissions are in progress.
  • Accessibility & Interaction
    • FAQ controls now provide clearer hover, pressed, and keyboard-focus feedback. Social buttons also show keyboard-focus rings and pressed-state feedback.
  • Visual Updates
    • Hover shadows and transitions have been removed from several animal, service, team, and contact cards.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The login page now guards authentication attempts against overlap and shows operation-specific loading feedback. Registration and lost-pet report forms use loading props. The FAQ, contact, and animal-card interfaces have updated loading or interaction styling.

Changes

UI interactions and feedback

Layer / File(s) Summary
Authentication loading feedback
src/app/login/page.tsx
The login page tracks authentication methods and password-reset requests separately. It prevents overlapping authentication attempts, clears loading state in finally, and displays operation-specific loading text.
Registration and report form loading
src/components/animal-registration/animal-registration-page.tsx, src/components/lost-pets/sighting-form.tsx
The submit buttons use loading and loadingText props. The registration fee label uses a template literal.
FAQ loading and controls
src/components/faq/faq-page.tsx
The FAQ loading indicator uses the shared Spinner. Question buttons gain interaction and focus styling, and the chevron rotates when an item is open.
Card and link interaction styling
src/components/animal-adoptions/animal-adoptions-page.tsx, src/components/homepage/*, src/components/contact/contact-page.tsx, src/components/veterinary-services/veterinary-services-page.tsx, src/components/consent/consent-settings-button.tsx
Animal and service cards remove hover-shadow styling or use the Card interactive prop. Contact and social links receive updated transitions and interaction styling. The consent settings button adds a pointer cursor.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 71355

Some updated interactions may use default transition timing instead of the intended durations. The impact is limited to visual polish, so the PR is mergeable with this bounded issue noted.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 71355

The change strengthens coordination of authentication attempts without changing who can access staff or owner functionality. No introduced security concern was identified in the inspected flows, although broader session-recovery and deployed behavior were not comprehensively verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new guard limits attempts in one login component instance; it does not constrain independent tabs or direct API clients. The inspected comparison preserves existing sign-in and session reachability rather than adding a new privileged caller or expanding account authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The unchanged session handler checks supplied Origin, verifies the ID token, requires verified email and derives administrative status server-side before writing claims and a session cookie. The client loading guard therefore remains interaction coordination, not authorization enforcement. The implementations of downstream role lookup and provisioning were not independently audited here.

Rebased onto current main: the #282 primitives (loading buttons,
Skeleton, motion tokens) are already on main, so this is only the
public-site delta — navigation-free surfaces:

- Login: per-path pending state so the pressed sign-in button shows
its own progress while both stay mutually disabled; forgot-password
gets a real pending state; mount placeholder uses Skeleton.
- Registration + sighting forms: submit buttons use loading/
loadingText instead of ad-hoc text swapping.
- FAQ: Spinner primitive, chevron rotates rather than icon-swapping,
  accordion buttons get hover/active/focus-visible feedback.
- Contact/homepage: press feedback + focus rings on real links;
static contact card drops its misleading hover shadow.
- Adoptions/vet-services/consent: consistent fast transitions.

No static content made pseudo-interactive; no business logic touched.

- Login: restore mutual exclusion across sign-in paths — both buttons
disable while either flow is pending, plus a synchronous in-flight
ref guard so a same-tick second activation can't slip past the
  deferred disabled render.
- FAQ: the standalone Spinner now carries role="status" via its
label prop so the loading state announces to screen readers.
