Finish brand-native states: announce failures, consolidate StatePanel (#209) - #231
Conversation
…#209) The bulk of #209 already landed via #216 (StatePanel + BubbleLoader primitives, layout-stable loading, true/filtered empty states, actionable errors, branded 404, reduced-motion bubbles). This closes the remaining gaps found auditing every public non-happy-path surface: - Booking widget failure now uses StatePanel with role="alert" — the "Loading availability" status region unmounts on failure, so the error panel previously appeared with no live-region announcement at all - Partners filtered-empty panel converted to the shared StatePanel (was a byte-identical bespoke duplicate) - StatePanel gains an optional titleClassName for prominent failures - Global error boundary gains an escape route: retry alone left a persistent failure with no way back except the URL bar - /dive-log gets a noscript fallback — without JS the client component sits on its loading state forever with no explanation No backend or business-logic changes. Reviewer's GuideThis PR completes the remaining brand-native non-happy-path states without backend or business-logic changes: booking failures now announce themselves accessibly, duplicate empty-state markup is consolidated onto StatePanel, and global-error and no-JavaScript surfaces gain actionable escape routes. next/link's <Link> depends on router context — the thing this boundary exists to survive losing. A plain <a> forces a full navigation, which re-bootstraps the app and is the recovery the escape route is for. Documented inline with a targeted eslint-disable. Identical failure observed on master's #228 run and on this branch's CI: the aria-expanded attribute poll can resolve before the browser applies the open panel's restored focusability, so the Tab probe lands on the page's hero CTA instead of entering the menu. Wait for the inert removal and link visibility first. Same fix as on #229. The filtered-empty StatePanel mounted silently: focus stays on the filter control and the result-count heading had no live role, so a screen reader user got no signal that the list emptied. The always- mounted count is now aria-live=polite + aria-atomic, so "0 accommodations" is announced as the filter narrows (CodeRabbit finding on #231). Summary
Closes #209 (complements canonical #216, delivered in #223). Auditing every public non-happy-path surface against the #209 acceptance criteria showed the state language was already strong —
StatePanel+BubbleLoaderprimitives, layout-stable loading, true/filtered empty states with next actions, actionable errors, a branded 404, and reduced-motion bubbles. This PR closes the remaining gaps. No backend or business-logic changes.States inventoried

booking-widget.tsx: failure panel now usesStatePanelwithrole="alert". Previously the "Loading availability"role="status"region unmounted on failure and the error appeared with no live-region announcement — a screen-reader user waiting on "Loading availability…" never heard that it failed. All three recovery actions (secure booking page, WhatsApp, contact) stay inside the announced region.accommodations-section.tsx: the filtered-empty panel was a byte-identical bespoke duplicate ofStatePanel— converted. No live role: the result-count heading already announces the change.state-panel.tsx: optionaltitleClassNameprop for prominent failures (booking error keeps itstext-lgtitle).app/global-error.tsx: added a "head back to the homepage" escape route — a persistent failure previously left only "Try again" on a dead-end page.dive-log/page.tsx:<noscript>fallback — without JS the client component sits on its loading state forever; now it says so and links to dive sites + contact.Tests
booking-widget.test.tsx(+1): failure is announced viarole="alert"and recovery links stay in the region.accommodations-section.test.tsx(+1): empty filter result explains itself and "Clear all filters" restores the list.npm run lint, typecheck, check, build:test— clean.npx vitest run— 517/517 pass.BubbleLoaderstill fully degrades (motion-reducebuilt in); no new animation added.Test plan
