Interpolate variable names in generated BAML placeholders
In BAMLGenerator.generate_prompt the loop appends f"\n{{{{var}}}}", which renders the literal text {{var}} for every entry in variables. As a result, the generated template never inserts the actual variable names and the interpreter cannot substitute values for those variables. The placeholder should incorporate the loop variable so each generated token matches the requested variable name.

Treat self-closing tags as balanced in XML well‑formedness check
The well‑formedness check counts opening tags with re.findall(r'<(\w+)[^/>]*>') and compares that count to closing tags. Self‑closing elements like <item/> are counted as opens but never as closes, so valid XML documents containing self‑closing tags are reported as “not well-formed”. This will incorrectly fail validation for common XML structures. The check should skip self‑closing tags or delegate to an XML parser.

The loop variable var is not being used in the template string. The code always appends the literal string '{{var}}' instead of the actual variable name from the list. Should be template += f\"\\n{{{{{var}}}}}\" to properly interpolate the variable name.

The element validation uses simple string matching which can produce false positives. For example, searching for '<data' would match '' or ''. Consider using a more precise regex pattern like r'<{element}(?:\\s|>|/)' to match only exact element names.

Similar to the required elements check, this validation uses simple string matching which can produce false positives. An element name like 'script' would incorrectly match 'scripture' or 'description'. Use a more precise regex pattern for exact matching.

The well-formedness check only verifies that the number of opening and closing tags match, but doesn't verify they are properly nested or correspond to each other. For example, '' would incorrectly pass. Consider using a stack-based approach to validate proper nesting and matching of tag pairs.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
The return type annotation indicates str but other _generate_* methods return Dict[str, Any]. This inconsistency could cause issues for callers expecting a uniform return type. Consider returning a dictionary with the XML string as a field (e.g., {'type': 'xml', 'content': xml_string}) to maintain consistency.
