Batch-rename files to fit where they are going. Pick a naming profile, drop in your files, and DropSort shows you exactly what each name becomes — then renames them all at once.
Every destination has its own rules, and they bite at the worst moment. A Synology encrypted share
cuts filenames off at 143 bytes — so a handful of emoji or CJK characters is enough to break an
upload that looked fine. Webflow rejects most punctuation. SharePoint hates # and %. macOS
tolerates characters that Windows refuses outright.
DropSort encodes those rules as profiles. Each one both checks your existing names and generates a compliant version, so you can see the damage and fix it in a single pass.

DropSort-Setup-<version>-win-x64.exe
Windows 10/11, 64-bit (x64). No admin rights needed: it installs per-user.
Note
The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" on first run. Click More info → Run anyway.
- Profile-based renaming — real length and character-set rules for each destination, used to both validate and repair names.
- Two-column review — current name on the left, the name it will become on the right. Nothing touches disk until you click Apply.
- Red/green rows — green is compliant, red violates the selected profile.
- Right-click in Explorer — select files, right-click DropSort..., and they are waiting in the window. A 40-file selection opens one window, not forty.
- Drag-and-drop — drop files onto the window to add them to the list.
- Manual override — select any row and press F2 to type a name yourself.
- Extra transforms — prefix, suffix, find & replace (plain or regex), and sequential numbering, applied before the profile normalises the result.
- Automatic conflict resolution — names are always made valid and unique, including against files already sitting in the folder.
- Safe applies — a two-phase rename makes chains and swaps (
A→B, B→C) work in any order, and a failure rolls the file back to its original name. - Optional log — writes a
dropsort-log-<timestamp>.txtrecord of every rename.
| Profile | Limit | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Cross-platform safe | 255 bytes | Portable across Windows, macOS and Linux. No reserved names, no trailing dot/space. |
| Tidy (lowercase + underscores) | 255 chars | Cosmetic clean-up: lowercase, spaces to _, repeats collapsed. |
| Web slug (kebab-case) | 120 chars | Lowercase ASCII, digits and dashes only. URL-friendly. |
| Synology NAS | 255 bytes | SMB-illegal characters rejected; no trailing dot/space. |
| Synology NAS (Encrypted) | 143 bytes | The eCryptfs byte budget — an emoji costs 4 bytes, a CJK character 3. |
| Webflow Asset Upload | 99 chars | A–Z a–z 0–9 - _ only, case preserved, diacritics stripped. |
| Windows (safe) | 255 chars | No < > : " / \ | ? *, no reserved device names. |
| Amazon S3 key (safe) | 255 chars | Letters, digits, . _ - — avoids anything needing URL-encoding. |
| SharePoint / OneDrive | 255 chars | Rejects ~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }. |
Your last-used profile is remembered between sessions. Full rules: Profile reference.

for macOS later. Only the Explorer context menu is Windows-specific.
