# 🧠 Facial Attribute Recognition using Deep Learning

Understanding human facial features is a key building block for many modern AI systems — this project uses deep learning to detect facial attributes and keypoints, enabling applications in security, identity verification, and personalized user experiences.

---

## 🚨 The Problem

Accurately interpreting facial features from images is a complex challenge due to variations in lighting, angles, and image quality. Traditional methods struggle to generalize across diverse datasets, making it difficult to build reliable systems for real-world applications.

This creates limitations in:
- identity verification systems
- facial analysis in security and surveillance
- user-facing applications relying on visual recognition

---

## 💡 The Solution

This project applies a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to learn and predict facial keypoints from image data. By training the model on labeled facial datasets, it captures spatial patterns and feature relationships that enable accurate detection of facial structures.

The solution demonstrates how deep learning can move beyond rule-based systems to learn complex visual patterns directly from data, improving performance and adaptability.

---

## 📊 Business Impact

The ability to accurately detect facial attributes enables a wide range of real-world applications.

This can support:
- enhanced security and identity verification systems
- improved biometric authentication
- personalization in digital platforms
- automation in visual data processing

---

## 🛠️ How it was done

The project uses the CelebA dataset, consisting of facial images and corresponding keypoint annotations. Images were preprocessed through resizing and normalization before being converted into numerical arrays for model training.

A CNN architecture was built using TensorFlow/Keras, with convolutional and pooling layers for feature extraction, followed by dense layers to predict facial keypoints. The model was trained using Mean Squared Error (MSE) as the loss function and evaluated using Mean Absolute Error (MAE).

The dataset was split into training and validation sets (80/20), and model performance was monitored through training and validation loss curves to ensure generalization.
