0.22.0

Minor Changes

  • #13830 49d4e00 Thanks @penalosa! - Mocking requests with MSW in Worker tests now requires MSW >= 2.14

    @cloudflare/vitest-pool-workers previously shipped internal shims to make MSW work inside the workerd runtime. MSW 2.14 added that support natively, so those shims have been removed.

    If you mock requests with MSW in your Worker tests, make sure you're on MSW >= 2.14; older versions will no longer intercept requests. You can keep using setupServer() from msw/node, or adopt the official @msw/cloudflare integration via setupNetwork(). See the updated request-mocking example fixture for the recommended pattern.

Patch Changes

  • #15211 bc5726b Thanks @nithin42! - Honor access.dev when running Workers with @cloudflare/vitest-pool-workers, so ctx.access.getIdentity() returns the configured identity just as it does with wrangler dev.

  • #15156 3ddd3ce Thanks @dario-piotrowicz! - Fix module resolution for relative require() inside CJS deps when the project path contains spaces

    When a project lives under a directory with a space in its name, externalized CommonJS dependencies that use relative require() calls (e.g. require("./lib/impl.js")) would fail with "No such module" because workerd preserves URL encoding in the module name. Encoded module paths are now handled deterministically before CommonJS resolution without altering literal percent sequences.

  • #15150 2cf3143 Thanks @kkkhs! - Restore typed inject() keys in cloudflareTest() pool options

    inject() inside cloudflareTest() options again infers the value type from the keys you declare in your Vitest ProvidedContext, and reports misspelled keys. For keys that are only provided at runtime, pass an explicit type argument, e.g. inject<number>("myPort").

  • #15232 8777180 Thanks @vicb! - Bump capnp-es to 0.0.16.

  • #15185 1f79ace Thanks @jamesopstad! - Use a fixed default compatibility date rather than the current date

    When no compatibility date was set, Wrangler, C3 and the Vitest pool all defaulted to the current date. workerd only accepts a compatibility date up to 7 days beyond its own release, so whenever a workerd release was delayed the default could get ahead of the runtime that had been installed, and local development would fail to start.

    The default is now fixed at the release date of the workerd version that ships with each release, which leaves a week of headroom and updates as workerd is upgraded. @cloudflare/vite-plugin previously inlined the date at which it was built. It now shares the same default.

Patch Changes

  • #15123 d0c976c Thanks @dependabot! - Widen WorkerPoolOptionsContext.inject type to avoid ProvidedContext mismatch

    Previously, calling inject() inside cloudflareTest() pool options could fail with a type error when your project's ProvidedContext augmentation wasn't visible to the pool plugin. The inject parameter now accepts any string key and is generic (inject<T>(key)), defaulting to unknown when no type argument is provided. This lets you opt in to concrete types (e.g. inject<number>("port")) while avoiding the cross-copy ProvidedContext mismatch that occurred when pnpm resolved separate virtual-store instances of vitest.

   🧭 Migration Guide

Most users can upgrade directly. Before upgrading, run one final build with tsdown@0.22.14 and resolve all deprecation warnings.

  • config:
    • bundle: false → unbundle: true; bundle: true can be removed
    • outExtension → outExtensions
    • publicDir / --public-dir → copy / --copy
    • removeNodeProtocol: true → nodeProtocol: 'strip'
    • injectStyle → css.inject
  • deps:
    • inlineOnly / deps.onlyAllowBundle → deps.onlyBundle
    • skipNodeModulesBundle: true → deps.neverBundle: true
    • resolveDepSubpath now defaults to false; set it to true to preserve the previous behavior
  • dts:
    • rolldown-plugin-dts was upgraded from 0.27.13 to 0.28.5
    • dts.oxc: true → dts.generator: 'oxc'
    • dts.tsgo: true → dts.generator: 'tsgo'; oxc and tsgo objects now only configure their respective generators
    • dts.volarPlugins → dts.customLanguages; rename each language's create hook to createVolarPlugins
    • Custom languages, including vue, now throw when combined with an incompatible generator
    • dts.cjsReexport was removed; dual-format builds now generate CJS declarations in a separate pass
  • attw:
    • The default profile changed from strict to esm-only; set profile: 'strict' to preserve the previous checks
  • programmatic API:
    • build() now returns { bundles, watch }; replace const bundles = await build() with const { bundles } = await build()
  • requirements:
    • Node.js 25 is no longer supported; use ^22.18.0, ^24.11.0, or >=26.0.0
    • rolldown-plugin-dts now requires Rolldown 1.2.x
    • Legacy types and typesVersions fallbacks were removed; use TypeScript's bundler, node16, or nodenext module resolution

  • #15648 52c0e9f Thanks @tpmmorris! - Expose configured Cron Triggers to local development consumers

    Wrangler now passes the active environment's exact Cron Trigger expressions to Miniflare so Local Explorer can display them. Headless agent sessions also advertise the Local Explorer scheduled invocation API.

  • #15786 bdda4c3 Thanks @ThomasRubini! - Support UDP connect handlers in local development

    The experimental connect configuration now accepts protocol: "udp", with optional idle_timeout_ms and max_pending_bytes settings. UDP datagrams are delivered to the Worker's connect() handler using workerd's value-mode socket streams, and can be tested with Miniflare#dispatchConnect({ protocol: "udp" }).

  • #15779 fc3cbaa Thanks @Naapperas! - Support workflow entries in the exports configuration map

    A Worker can now declare the Workflows it defines in exports, keyed by the WorkflowEntrypoint class name:

    {
      "exports": {
        "MyWorkflow": {
          "type": "workflow",
          "name": "my-workflow",
          "limits": { "steps": 100 },
          "schedules": "0 * * * *"
        }
      }
    }

    A workflow export accepts the same settings as a workflows binding: limits, concurrency, schedules, and default_retention. wrangler deploy and wrangler versions upload send these entries to the upload API by name, and wrangler deploy and wrangler triggers deploy provision the Workflow with its settings, just as they do for workflows bindings owned by the Worker. A Workflow may be declared both as a binding and as an export, as long as both declarations use the same class and do not set the same setting to different values. A binding to another Worker's Workflow cannot share a name with an export. @cloudflare/config adds the matching exports.workflow() helper. Local development does not yet act on these entries.

Updates esbuild from 0.28.1 to 0.28.2

Release notes

Sourced from esbuild's releases.

v0.28.2

  • Fix tree shaking bug due to TypeScript import alias (#4507)

    This release fixes a bug that could cause esbuild to incorrectly tree-shake imports that are used in a TypeScript type alias under certain circumstances. Affected code uses a TypeScript-specific import assignment and looks something like this:

    import Base from './dep.js';
    import Alias = Base.SomeType;
  • Fix CSS minification bug involving & (#4497)

    This release fixes a bug where esbuild's CSS minifier incorrectly removed a & when it was unsafe to do so. Here is an example:

    /* Original code */
    .a .b {
      & .b:not(& .c) {
        color: red;
      }
    }
    /* Old output (with --minify) */
    .a .b{.b:not(& .c){color:red}}
    /* New output (with --minify) */
    .a .b{& .b:not(& .c){color:red}}

    This should match <span class="a"><span class="b"><span class="b">yes</span></span></span> but not <span class="a"><span class="b">no</span></span>. The old output incorrectly matched both.

  • Avoid overwriting input files without --allow-overwrite (#4484)

    For example: esbuild input.js --outfile=input.js tells esbuild to overwrite input.js with the output of running esbuild on it. This was supposed to already be prevented by default, but it accidentally regressed in version 0.17.0 and apparently didn't have any test coverage. The error message was being printed but the input file was still being overwritten. Oops.

    This release puts the original behavior back. With this release, esbuild should now actually avoid overwriting input files unless --allow-overwrite is explicitly present. This is done by not writing out any files when a build error is encountered.

  • Fix incorrect code generated when using top-level await (#4498)

    Previously esbuild could generate code containing a syntax error in complex scenarios involving top-level await used in a dependency cycle. The problem was a missing async on one or more module wrapper closures. With this release, esbuild now uses a fixed-point iteration algorithm to correctly annotate all dependencies in the cycle as needing an async module wrapper.

  • Fix a minification bug with lowered logical assignment operators (#4508)

    This release fixes a bug that could cause esbuild to generate incorrect code for logical assignment operators when lowering them to an older target environment. Specifically the lowering process requires duplicating the left-hand side, but esbuild incorrectly failed to count the duplicate as a new usage when the left-hand side is an identifier. That then caused the minifier to believe that the left-hand side was only used once and could attempt to incorrectly inline an initializer into the first usage. This bug has now been fixed:

    // Original code
    function foo() {
      let x
      bar(x ||= {})
