Summary

Prepares the 1.0.0 release. Closes nothing by itself; #16 is closed when the release is published.

  • Plans. The READMEs said motion-render works on every plan, including Free. The free Claude.ai plan does not include Claude Code, so motion-render cannot run there. The note, the comparison table and the requirements now say: Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise and API keys (Console, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud, Microsoft Foundry). English and Japanese.
  • Descriptions. plugin.json and marketplace.json still described the plugin as "with Claude Motion". They now say it works with Claude Motion or as an HTML page.
  • Version. 0.5.0 → 1.0.0 in package.json, skills/motion-render/package.json, .claude-plugin/plugin.json and both lock files.

After merge

  1. Tag v1.0.0 on the merge commit and push the tag.
  2. Publish a GitHub Release from the notes below, with an HTML film as the example video. The video has to be uploaded in the release editor so it plays inline.
  3. Close feat: make videos without Claude Motion so users on any plan can use motion-render #16.
Release notes draft

motion-render now works without Claude Motion.

Until now, the animation was built with Claude Motion, a beta available only on Team and Enterprise plans. From 1.0.0, when Motion is not available, Claude writes the animation as an HTML page on a kit that ships with motion-render, and renders it to MP4 the same way. Narration, BGM and sound effects work as before.

So motion-render now runs wherever Claude Code runs: the Pro and Max plans, Console API keys, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. On Team and Enterprise, Claude still uses Motion when your account has it.

What's new in 1.0.0

  • HTML films. Claude writes one HTML page with the bundled player (GSAP), styles and fonts (Noto Sans JP, and Klee One for the hand-drawn looks). No extra setup: the kit is installed with motion-render.
  • Drawing styles. An HTML film is drawn in the look that fits the theme: flat and dark, pencil on paper, coloured pencil, blueprint, paper collage or whiteboard. Lines wobble like a hand-drawn line, shapes can be hatched, and headings can get a highlighter. Claude picks the style from your request; there is no new option to set.
  • A layout check before rendering. motion-render check reports elements that overlap or hide each other, things sticking out of their box or the frame, and text that is too small or too faint. Claude fixes them before rendering, and build stops if any are left.
  • Livelier motion. New helpers for arcs, breathing emphasis and text that rises one character at a time, plus guidance on round trips, connecting scenes with objects and showing real mechanisms as small simulations.
  • Faster rendering. Frames are drawn on several browser pages at once: half the CPU cores by default, at most 8 (MOTION_RENDER_PAGES).
  • No more hangs. Calls into the film page and ffmpeg have time limits, so a stall fails with an error instead of waiting forever.
  • Smoother BGM. When the music is shorter than the video, it returns to a point past its intro with a crossfade instead of restarting.
  • Length from the content. The video is as long as the theme needs, with no fixed cap.

Claude Code is not included in the free Claude.ai plan, so motion-render is not available there.

Update

Open /plugin in Claude Code, go to Installed, select motion-render and choose Update now, then restart Claude Code. See Update in the README to turn on auto-update.

Test plan

  • make check: 11 test files, 113 tests passed, coverage 96.84%
  • A 4.5-minute HTML film in the pencil-on-paper style rendered end to end with the code on master
  • After the release, update the plugin with /plugin and check that motion-render --version prints 1.0.0
