WalkthroughThe Rust changes reduce metadata checks during item lookup and avoid materializing full item payloads for ownership lineage reads. The pull request adds benchmark and reversion-proof tooling, CI automation, tests, documentation, and recorded benchmark results. ChangesNative hot paths and benchmark evidence

Reviewer's GuideThis draft PR optimizes item lookup and ownership lineage retention without relaxing strict validation, and adds an isolated baseline/native/oracle benchmark workflow plus stronger no-Git concurrency and regression coverage to measure performance and verify exact behavioral and storage parity. - Line 139: Update the latency sample count in the aggregate results statement
to match the gate receipt’s three commands across three platforms and three
30-run windows: use 810 total samples, or explicitly state 270 per platform.
- Around line 48-54: Update the “Native hot-path benchmark” documentation and
associated tracker comments to replace “dedicated” with accurate wording such as
“ephemeral GitHub-hosted ubuntu-latest runner,” while preserving the distinction
from a contended development host without implying a stable performance
reference.
- Around line 13-16: Add a per-sample runtime-order field to the
receipt-generation and recording flow described by the native hot paths
documentation, and document the field’s exact name alongside the other retained
sample data so the alternating schedule can be audited.
Review comments at @README.md:
- Around line 16-21: Merge the duplicate “Without git” README section into the
existing section, moving its 50-writer contract sentence there and removing the
duplicate heading. Align the Git boundary wording with the existing section, and
qualify the native context claim by noting that it refuses trackers with 10,000
or more items, linking to docs/NATIVE_HOT_PATHS.md.

Large-tracker ownership and mutation paths now retain a compact, strictly validated parent index and avoid metadata probes for unrelated regular files. This PR also supplies reproducible benchmark receipts, a 50-writer non-git contract, and interrupt-safe behavioral revert controls.
The latest review identified three correctness gaps. Corpus validation now precedes claim and release writes, so unrelated duplicates or malformed documents refuse without changing the target item, its history, or session attribution. The validated parent index is reused, preserving the single-scan and payload-retention optimization. Benchmark command selections reject unknown or empty names before fixture generation. The historical executable-identity flag now agrees with the retained differing SHA-256 fingerprints.
PRRT_kwDOTwgMRs6vTVBMPRRT_kwDOTwgMRs6vTVBaPRRT_kwDOTwgMRs6vTVBpWhole-diff review found the same validation ordering defect in release and the same empty-measurement acceptance in the report renderer. These are fixed with regressions. A further real-process check reproduced a filename alias whose stored ID was absent from the parent index: the request returned ItemNotFound after persisting the claim. Shared prevalidation now also requires the requested lineage key before claim or release can write. Reports reject empty and oracle-only receipts, while the retained complete historical receipt still renders its existing table. The latest substantive CodeRabbit review (2026-10-22T17:26:29Z) contains no outside-diff findings. Review threads remain untouched.
Regression and revert evidence:
cargo +1.90.0 test --locked --test read_contract ownership_parent_index_keeps_unrelated_validation: passes restored. Moving only claim validation after its write fails with exit 101 and changed target bytes; moving only release validation after its write independently fails the same assertion. Each restored control passes.cargo +1.90.0 test --locked --test read_contract ownership_missing_index_target_refuses_without_writes: covers claim and release with a filename/stored-ID mismatch, preserving the target, absent history and pre-existing session bytes. Removing only the target guard fails with exit 101 from changed target bytes; restored passes.node --test --test-name-pattern="benchmark command selections" scripts/harness.test.mts: restoring only the prior selection behavior fails because an unknown-only selection exits 0 and publishes an empty complete receipt. The fixed behavior passes.node --test --test-name-pattern="reproduction identity flag" scripts/harness.test.mts: restoring only the contradictory flag fails; corrected evidence passes.node --test --test-name-pattern="reports reject empty" scripts/harness.test.mts: removing only the report guard fails because the empty receipt is published; restoring passes, including the complete historical table comparison.node scripts/perf-revert-proof.mts: both original optimization controls fail their intended assertions at exit 101, then both restored controls pass at exit 0; exact source bytes are restored. SIGINT/SIGTERM group, parent-only and cargo-only restoration regressions remain in the full harness.Local validation: the complete Node harness passes 23/23 with zero failures, cancellations or skips; ownership unit tests pass 14/14; all three pinned-PM linked commands pass (two ownership regressions plus the complete Node harness). Strict no-emit erasable TypeScript checks pass for all changed scripts. An initial release-gate attempt caught a prohibited test expect helper; explicit error handling replaces it without relaxing lint settings. Final pushed head
9337cb13e7ad68daa26ebaf609911d1b0b84eafbretains exact code head2c5485985b1d80ea023d6a9c586929318d42815dplus the final PM receipt. The final-head CI run passes all nine jobs, including the unchangedjust release-checkaggregate on Linux, macOS and Windows. Downloaded logs confirm:Linux counts are lines 14076/14076, functions 1473/1473, regions 23519/23519 and branches 3304/3304. Coverage scope and thresholds are unchanged. Audit, changelog and strict check-only tracker health pass; the existing RUSTSEC-2024-0449 advisory allowance remains. No TypeScript coverage percentage is claimed.
The final-head native workflow passes both jobs. Its real optimization proof contains two intended assertion failures at exit 101 followed by two restored passes at exit 0. The retained final-head benchmark artifact is complete with 81 rows and 1620 measured samples, distinct before/native fingerprints and launch-recorded order.
The local full attempt stopped when an unchanged relationship-packet child hit its existing five-second deadline; the exact case passed on retry at the unchanged limit, and full final-head CI subsequently passed. That incomplete local attempt is not counted as a gate pass. Superseded canceled runs are not approval. The PM item remains in progress with its implementation claim released, and all 76 pre-existing history streams retain their original prefixes.
The historical paired receipt retains 81 rows and 1,620 measured launches across 1k/10k/50k synthetic items, using independent immutable baseline/candidate binaries and the locked 2026.10.21 oracle. Its runtime-order annotations are explicitly reconstructed and removable to reproduce the original receipt hash; new runs record order at launch. At 50k, the recorded claim p50/p95 changed from 3609.2/3630.5 ms to 2522.3/2543.3 ms, with peak RSS from 508516 to 24824 KiB. Comment/update statx calls fell from 300030 to 30 while retaining eight fsync calls each. These are historical GitHub-hosted runner measurements, with timing noise possible. Native context still refuses 10k/50k, next/list-open remain unsupported, current-oracle byte equality holds in only 2/27 historical cases, and all nine oracle mutation artifact comparisons differ. Refusal timings are excluded from successful-operation speed claims.
pm-rust-wdj4 records the decisions, exact commands, failures and revert proofs with append-only history. No dependency pins, coverage scope or thresholds changed. No TypeScript coverage percentage is claimed. Existing broader interactive health drift remains tracked by pm-rust-b4yl; no history repair was performed. No review replies/resolutions, PR merge or release.
The current CodeRabbit check reports that review was skipped and manual review is required for this OSS repository. No fresh reviewer approval is claimed. The final complete thread fetch still contains only the three addressed findings above; the latest substantive review remains 2026-10-22T17:26:29Z with no outside-diff findings.
