Description

parseURL("http://example.com?email=user@example.org") treats the query as user info and changes the host. Stop user info at /, ?, or #, and use the final authority @ as the delimiter when credentials contain an @. Preserve root queries and fragments.

Resolves #388.

Checks

Three root-query/fragment regressions fail on unchanged main; the real user-info control passes. Four additional user-info separator regressions fail before the review fix. pnpm test passes lint, formatting, type checks, and all 499 tests. pnpm build and git diff --check pass. Initial verification took 3 minutes and review verification took under 1 minute on Node 24.19.0.

AI-assisted; source and test results reviewed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • URLs with @ characters in user information are parsed correctly, including empty user information. @ characters in query strings and fragments remain part of those values.

  • observed — test (service) was modified; 1 changed file maps to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in src/parse.ts: parseURL changes the user-information capture from requiring at least one character and excluding @ to allowing an empty capture and @, while stopping at /, ?, or #.
  • observed — Modified behavior in test/parse.test.ts: Added parseURL tests expecting @ characters after the authority boundary to remain in the query or fragment, while actual user info before that boundary is parsed separately.
  • observed — Modified behavior in test/parse.test.ts: Added parseURL cases expecting the final @ in the authority to separate user info from the host, including cases with query strings, fragments, or empty user info.
