General discussion
Our game is Save the Puppies! Save the puppies is about a small boy whose house was broken into by monsters. You have to fight your way through your house and save your puppies! The game plays similarly to The Legend of Zelda, a game originally manufactured and sold by Nintendo in 1986. In the Legend of Zelda franchise, you play as the character Link and are usually tasked with helping or saving the princess Zelda. Along with the similarities of the goals of the games (i.e. saving something important to the protagonist) the game has destructible items such as pots and fictional enemies that, in their own way, mimic the fun and sense adventure the Legend of Zelda franchise has done for so long.
You and your partner have decided to use your engineering skills to create a start-up software company. Clients can come to you with ideas, and you make it happen. Your philosophy is that nothing is impossible – if a client can dream it, you can build it (as long as they’ll pay for it!). On the first day, a client comes in the door, explaining that he yearns for the days when he used to play computer games with his neighborhood friends, and he wants something similar and simple for his twelve-year-old daughter.
The overall goal of this project is to design an offline game as a Java application that takes input from users and responds accordingly, and to develop a computer artificial intelligence (AI) to play against the user. The purpose of this project is to learn basic Object-Oriented Programming, Threading and Concurrency, Graphical User Interface (GUI), Algorithm Development and Artificial Intelligence, Game Design and Iterative and Incremental Software Development. The project will be completed in pairs.
