Deletes, security resets, and update installations currently ask for confirmation using browser-native dialogs. Replace these with one themed in-app modal that shows the action and consequence, focuses Cancel by default, supports Escape, and restores focus after dismissal.

The shared handler covers htmx and ordinary form submissions, preserves validation and submitter values, and sends the action once only after confirmation. Dialog text uses textContent, and obsolete confirmations close on htmx swaps. Add a browser regression script and repository guidance against introducing native alert/confirm/prompt dialogs.

Validation: Playwright checks passed for cancellation, keyboard focus, validation, submission values, htmx and no-htmx forms, text escaping, and desktop/mobile/landscape rendering. No native dialogs appeared. JavaScript syntax, make lint, go test -race ./..., make size (30 MB), and git diff --check passed. Not deployed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Form confirmation prompts now appear in a themed in-app dialog instead of a browser-native prompt.
    • The dialog supports clear accept and cancel actions, preserves keyboard focus, and displays confirmation text safely across screen sizes and themes.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Required-field validation remains active before confirmation, and accepted submissions retain their values and are sent only once. Canceled confirmations do not proceed.

Walkthrough

Forms and HTMX confirmation requests now use a shared themed in-app dialog instead of native browser confirmations. The change adds form and HTMX handling, dialog styling, focus and dismissal behavior, and a Playwright script that tests confirmation flows.

Changes: Confirmation dialog

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared dialog and presentation
internal/web/static/js/app.js, internal/web/static/css/app.css
A shared dialog handles confirmation labels, danger styling, focus restoration, and acceptance. CSS styles the dialog, backdrop, content, and actions.
Form and HTMX confirmation flows
internal/web/static/js/app.js, scripts/test_confirmations.py, AGENTS.md
Form and HTMX confirmation requests proceed after acceptance. The Playwright script checks validation, dismissal, focus, submissions, and dialog rendering. AGENTS.md records behavior requirements and the test command.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to e9cf3

The confirmation change is mergeable; improving the test would make the HTMX path easier to verify.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to e9cf3

The shared dialog changes how sensitive actions are approved without changing server-side permissions. No introduced security bypass was established. Remaining uncertainty concerns concurrent actions, interrupted submissions, and stale browser elements.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The change affects confirmation of existing privileged actions in a user's browser, rather than granting new backend authority. Its security relevance includes account password changes, two-factor resets, disabling accounts, and deletion.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Confirmation remains a client-side user-intent gate, not authorization. Inspected server routes retain session and CSRF enforcement, with account-management and update handlers performing their own permission checks.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — A single pending-dialog guard rejects additional confirmation attempts. Acceptance disables the button, and a one-shot close listener bounds continuation to once per dialog. Cancellation does not continue the action; cleanup removes the dialog, restores connected-trigger focus, and suppresses continuation when the source is disconnected.

Follow-up Comments

Nitpick Record the submission type in the htmx regression assertion.

14-36: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Record the submission type in the htmx regression assertion.

The boosted Set password submission passes in both modes. The route handler records only the path and body, so the test cannot tell an htmx XHR from a native navigation. A regression that stops htmx from boosting this form would still pass.

Record each POST's navigation state, then assert it for the boosted submission. The htmx branch should be non-navigation. The no-htmx branch should be navigation.

Update the POST request tracking in run to record whether each request is a
navigation, and assert that the boosted /save submission is non-navigation with
htmx enabled and navigation without it. Preserve the existing path/body
assertion and fulfill navigation requests using the recorded state.
